So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

Wrong...if a Navy corpsman would opt to go Marine standards instead of Navy he would wear the EGA...Corpsman graduating from FMSS training (Field Med School) have the option to go Marine or Navy standards. Marine standards mean Marine uniform greens and PFT standards of Marines need to be met as well as Marine uniform regs. BTW I am retired Navy corpsman(retired in 1994)

I've met one trying to bang out my little sister's best friend. His story was that he was a helicopter pilot and he didn't know that I was on mid-tour leave. I asked for his rank and he spit out Sgt. The I preceded to tell him that I know he was lying and informed him that he should try to impress chicks with a different lie. This friend was raised in my house growing up so I think of her as my sister and am protective of her like she was my own sister. I told her after she got back from her date and she was furious.
As for why he lied, I have no idea. Being a soldier doesn’t exactly lead to being swimming in pussy. Maybe he wised up and started lying about being rich.

To this day I do not understand why these idiots try to pose as active/retired military. It really pisses me off to the max.

I know this is an old post, but here’s mine.

Local gun range have free range time to military. The guy in front of me pulled out dog tags to the girl working the counter to get said discount.

The girl wasn’t having it and he started giving her excuses. I was right behind him so I pulled out my CAC card and interjected with:

“She wants to see one of these”

He clammed up and paid the fee.

God it felt good.

Seen a few here and there, but mostly at locations far removed from military bases. Case in point. I was working as a Food Inspector in Iowa during the early ‘70’s. I was sent to Des Moines to work a pork plant as the assigned inspector went on leave. While there, my OIC, Veterinary Officer came to visit. We decided to go have a beer after work (we didn’t wear uniforms during these assignments). We saw a young Specialist come in wearing a fruit salad, about every badge you could get, jump boots, beret, etc,. you get the picture. I just walked up to him and showed him my ID (I was a Sp5 at the time) and told him my CPT wanted to talk to him. He looked pretty sick about then. We very politely corrected him without embarrassing him. He left and came back in civies. Sometimes ya just gotta correct them.
