So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I was stopped on the main highway outside Siaton Philippines......A motorcycle whizzed by then turned around and came back..."Are you having a problem?" I thanked him and said no I was just texting....He saw I had ARMY on my T-shirt.... "Were you in the Army"?..... affirmative....He said "Me too....I am a retired LTC green beret....
I have 15 years on the HILL.... I took off my Special Forces ring and handed it to him..... it has an SF crest.....SF patch....and actually says "SPECIAL FORCES" around the bezel....He handed it back saying "Oh....you were in the Rangers"..... I knew he was a phony.....I endure two years of his lies and posturing....public embarrassment ....finally he claimed he was an "ARMY TRAINED OBGYN" and started giving free exams..... I told him he must stop.... It is one thing to lie and quite another to molest women.... He told me to take my best shot..... I wrote a column for the local paper and exposed his lies..... he tried to sue me....I had documentation DOA stating he spent 28 days in the Army and was discharged as an E-2 ( I suspect a mental problem... his father tried to kill him as a child....he lied to get acceptance)..... I had documents from the AMA & OBGYN association that they had never heard of him ( His mother was an RN but he held no credentials)... from that point on he was shunned.... later he was killed by a truck.....the rumor is it was not an accident

I was married to one. He was prior service, told everyone he was a Captain in Vietnam (because that was the last major conflict at that time . When I finally got his records he was an E5 airframe mechanic during peacetime. Now I'm told he is claiming to have been a Lieutenant Colonel (maybe a Colonel by now) in Desert Storm.

Sometimes it's quite obvious when the poser is in such pathetic attempt at a uniform, and other times, it's not. Case in point; I was at a Burger King [a rare event for me], and I noticed a gentleman in his 50s seated with his wife. He was wearing a "Special Forces" baseball cap that appeared so fresh out of the box, I half expected to see a tag still on it. Now, that in itself isn't suspicious, but when I tried to make eye-contact with him, he did everything he could to avoid it. Mind you, I wasn't glaring or mean-mugging him, but rather, trying to assess his level of confidence. I have yet to meet a SF dude afraid to look anyone in the eye. Nonetheless, this gentleman quietly refused to look at me after he first noticed that his hat had piqued my curiosity. It should be noted that his wife also didn't make eye-contact with me either. The couple did quietly speak to one another, but even then, never so much as glanced at me after. I finished my meal, and got up to leave. It was then the gentleman finally glanced at me, but quickly looked away when he realized I was giving him one last look. Was he a poser? I cannot confirm or deny it. However, his behavior did lead me to suspect him as such. Your thoughts?

I am a Tri-service Veteran US Army 73-76 US Navy 77-89 US Army reserve 93-97 and US Air Force National Guard (Texas) 97-01 I retired out of the Air National Guard in 2001 how this happened this way was a long story but I can remember when I was a Vet Rep up in Portland, Oregon and during my tenure there which was three years I caught 5 people posing as Veterans, how I caught them was asking simple questions which they couldn't answer, this used to and still does infuriate me to no end. I have a simple solution but unfortunately I can't do it. so in the mean time I guess we Vets have to deal with it until someone starts making stiff penalties

I've never served in the Army but I can see a ton of rhings that are jacked-up in his uniform, not least of all is that the Purple Heart ranks above the National Defense. I've never seen one of these people in person but many of the people I've seen in videos seem to be mentally handicapped.
