So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

Yes. Ran into a man wearing a Marine ball cap with Vietnam veteran on it. Asked him when he was there and he responded 68 to 78. Said he was the last POW to come home and the NVA made him fight for them. The last POW came back in 74 and the last deserter came back in 76 I believe. I just walked away.

My active service included a year in Vietnam at a time when much of the American public didn't show much respect for those of us who served. I can recognize many people who did much more than I did, and my pride is in having served with them. Most of the wannabes I have met were relatively harmless. I knew a few who said they had served and you could tell talking to them they hadn't. Most of those who served are fairly modest about their service, even the real heroes. I don't see myself as a hero, but I did serve with quite a few of them and I am proud of them.

Possibly. I have known a few wannabes, but most were pretty harmless. Living near a city with a heavy military presence, most posers wouldn't even try.

At Ft Monroe a local minister posed for 10 or 15 years as a colonel. Well he finally had to promote himself to Brigadier. They couldn't get him off the post quick enough.

Tell the guy he is disrespecting those of us that did serve and those that are currently serving our great nation. The worst part is the insult to those that made the ultimate sacrifice for us.Go ahead and wear the stuff if you want but don't f*!#ing DARE claim to have put your ass on the line in service to America!
