So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

As a veteran, working at the VA, I've seen too much of this kind of thing. One young fella, wearing BDU's, tried to emulate an Army Ranger. Problem was, he was trying to claim that he'd seen action from Vietnam to the first gulf war, and, if he was over the age of 25, he was FAR too well preserved. He was trying to claim benefits for his "service connected" disability. Turns out, he'd gone to the surplus store, read a few stories, and taken another's name. He had claimed a unit that one of our patients actually served in. When confronted for specifics, he couldn't even get the names or dates right. Yeah, I really have a problem with posers, particularly when those who try to claim a thing they could never have passed muster for. I've had the great privilege of talking with a good many people, from WW2, through Iraq and Afghanistan in the 30 years I've served our veterans. I've had the great good fortune to have made friends with some of these good Men and Women, and learned from their collective wisdom. Young or old, these are some of the finest people, and that someone who would try to insinuate that they are a part of this particular brotherhood WITHOUT having the testicular fortitude to lay their life on the line is one of the most VILE insults ever.

there is a re-occuring poser out there named Chris Passion he tells ppl . he was Marine Force Recon, after getting board went to the Navy Seals (Team 6) then NSA, CIA,FBI this jerk off has more war stories than the History Channel. he has been called out point blank and always deflects and retreats before he is harmed and continues the all tale. I was able to at least get him fired for this at least once.

He's wearing a Vietnam Service Ribbon yet doesn't look to be 62 years old. This would be the minimum age for a Vietnam Veteran.

Do you only get the Viet Nam Service award if you were there or if you were in the military during that war?

The last units to get it were in the collapse of Saigon in 1975.

when I was working at Wal-Mart in Waterville Maine. I was working the sporting goods counter when this guy with his girl friend wanted to look at firearms. his girlfriend picked up a bullet and held it by the bullet and the bottom of the cartage and he freaked out on her. I told him that there is nothing wrong with looking at the round this was. he responded "well I was in the military I know its going to go off" so I asked him what branch of service he was in and reply's as army. I said awesome me too. I asked him what is his MOS he asked what that meant I told him its his job. he replied as infantry. I then asked him why the sky was blue he then asked "what dose that have to do with anything?" and I can not make this up. I asked him where he did basic training at he then responds "camp keys" (for those who do not know camp keys is a small national guard post in Augusta Maine) I then laughed and asked has he even thought of his story before telling this crap to people? he got upset and told me that the US infantry dose basic training at Camp Keys. I asked him for his rank he then showed me a rank on his smart phone it was a sgt logo with a T under it. I looked it up and it was a rank that we used in WW2 times. I then call him out and he said "I do not remember anything really because I got hit with a butt stock in the back of the head" I then replied to about face on out of here. and he said "what dose that even mean?"
I can not make this up if I tried.
