In answer to your question YES... I Served on Two of the listed ships.. ..1971, USS Juneau LPD 10, and also 1970-1971, the USS Okinawa LPH 3... That Said Sir, along with $0.50 will get you a cup of coffee.. These ships may be listed by the VA.. however, the VA does not always honor what is in black and white !! Two ships listed by VA !!, Two diseases that THEY (VA) list as related to Exposure, A/O !! 13 Operations, Battling With VA since 2008, STILL AT IT !!

Now that VA has recognized these two, hopefully your claims can now be settled.

I know how you feel. I contacted my Congressman to urge him not to vote to overhaul/privatize VA Health Care and Tricare and he basically told me to go f--k myself. Guess who won't get my vote come reelection? John McCain, that's who!

Sgt Spencer Sikder I read this over the weekend. It is about damned time that they are acknowledging that deploying an airborne agent doesn't mean that it is going to remain where it was deployed. I sincerely hope that any who are suffering from the exposure get the help that is needed.

Sgt. Spencer Skider I've served on the USS FLINT 1988-1992. The Flint was not listed on that list outlined in the article. But I have researched the flint history and here's what I found. Since the Flint was Ammunition Supply Ship, I was wondering if it might have carried some Agent Orange munitions.?

USS Flint was commissioned under the command of Captain Philip R. Bush following extensive sea trials.[citation needed] The ship then made a transit through the Panama Canal to its home port of Naval Weapons Station,Concord, California.

Flint made its first Western Pacific (WestPac) deployment in fall of 1972. It participated in numerous underway replenishment activities with ships of the US 7th Fleet in support of military operations off the coast of Vietnam including resupply of gunline destroyers and aircraft carriers participating in Operation Linebacker and Operation Linebacker II. Itshelicopter detachment flew hundreds of sorties ferrying munitions to US naval ships in the operational theatre.

Captain Bush was relieved as Commanding Officer by Captain Thomas Rogers in December, 1972.[citation needed] In subsequent deployments in 1973-1974 and 1974–1975,Flint was assigned to naval forces in the Gulf of Aden in support of operations monitoring the Yom Kippur War, the Vietnam evacuation task force (Operation Frequent Wind) and rescue forces involved in the Mayagüez incident.

Captain Rogers was relieved as Commanding Officer by Commander John K. Ferguson in early 1974.[citation needed]

Flint served as ammunition supply ship during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, 1990 to 1992, under Cmdr. Skirm and Capt. Thompson.[citation needed]

Cmdr. John M. MacIntyre of Coronado, California, was the final commanding officer of the ship.[citation needed] The ship was under the operational command of Commander, Logistics Group 1.

Flint completed 15 deployments to the western Pacific and received recognition for the dramatic 1978 rescue of 86 fishermen shipwrecked near Palawan Island, Philippines, during a typhoon.

Given the extent of the review you may not find the answer you expect. The extensive review veterans have pushed is why we're seeing these ships added. There was a recent result of exposure to military members who served on C-123's years after the bird was used to spray the defoliant. http://www.benefits.va.gov/compensation/agentorange-c123.asp which could be a basis for claims in other vessels. It's a stretch, but the crews of C-123 thought so too and look where they are now.

I looked at the list a bit more in depth. It looks like if you did serve on any of the vessels, it would have had to been during a specific time frame. Specifically when there was active combat in Vietnam. So unless you're a Vietnam veteran, I don't think so.

PO1 Bernard Bongolan - I tripped over this snippet:

Ships will be regularly added to the list based on information confirmed in official records of ship operations. Currently there are 344 ships on this list. A Veteran must file an Agent-Orange related disability claim before VA will conduct research on a specific ship not on VA's ships list. This requirement also applies to survivors and children with birth defects. VA does not have the capacity to research ships when no compensation claim is filed. If you think your ship should be on the list and you are not filing a claim, you may conduct your own research and submit documentary evidence to VA. Documentary evidence includes deck logs, ship histories, and cruise book entries. You may obtain ship deck logs from the National Archives at College Park, Maryland. This evidence must show the ship entering the inland waterways of Vietnam, docking in Vietnam, or otherwise sending crew members ashore. A ship that anchored in an open water harbor, such as Da Nang Harbor, is not sufficient evidence for the presumption of Agent Orange exposure. You must scan your documentary evidence and email it to the Veterans Benefits Administration's Compensation Service at [login to see] . Emails sent to this email address are not secure. Please do not include personal data.
