I was recently at Camp Atturbury and many Majors received the news that they have been selected for mandatory retirement. It is imperative to fine tune and prepare yourself for the next chapter in your life.

I am staring at that point when one of these days in the not distant future, I'll take this uniform off and not put it back on. That day's gonna suck. However, what'll suck even more is if I know that day's coming and I do nothing about it.

I keep up with the latest IT job openings and make sure I network with GS workers so I know when a potential employment opportunity may open up. I keep my technical certifications and resume' up to date, while obtaining more certifications for the job I want. I'm currently scheduled to take the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification in December while I'm on break from my Masters in Information Management through Syracuse. Really its about being prepared for the inevitable separation that we all face at some point.

Haven't thought about it, the 53A course is partnered with Syracuse so I only needed 4 classes for my masters. I last sent out my resume in June while pending the OSB results and received some lucrative offers. I would like to go to the Cyber Protection Brigade and finish out my career in the next 5 to 7 years. I also had several GS13s look at my resume and work history and they kind of guided me to the certifications that I need to obtain.
