PO3 Aaron Hassay The best person to answer this would be the Navy Personnel Command (NPC). This is the resource that your Active Duty Career Counselors utilize when asking uncommon questions. Sine your request is about a program that existed in the '90's there may not be many around that have detailed knowledge about this program. If you can provide more specifics on the program, then I should be able to point you in the right direction. However, most reservists utilize the Career Management System (CMS) Interactive Detailing (ID) program to actively look for and apply for billets. These billets can be to ships as well as OCONUS and CONUS commands. Unless you are a drilling reservist then you will not be able to access this website. I have provided the link to the contact information for NPC, hopefully this helps!

That Sailor needs to go on CMS-ID and find a billet that would allow him/her to have that assignment. Look at a LCS ship as there are reserve units for them.

Thank You for the heads up.

I thought reserve units for ships were no longer. I stand corrected. But there are differences major from what I was exposed 1990s.

Is the LCS model, in port considered Operational, when the augment is only in port?

I read about the LCS Reserve Unit Augment Manning Model-- allows for up to 8 Units in port only support. No Sea Time. The 50 man crew needs time off in port. I reserve unit could take those watches and offer relief. This is a good model but does not allow for underway time still. I wonder if these reserve units have the actual UIC on there orders of the ship? I suppose not. I suppose their UIC would be the reserve center. I know for a fact the ships crew corpsman is not handling the reserve units as well. These LCS actually have a configuration for a FFG Frigate tasking.

1990, In comparison, had a few FFGs assigned a 30 Man Reserve Unit. The unit actually took 30 billets from the Active Duty Full time FFG Manpower. Essentially, the crew was below minimum manning in port and underway deployed until the reserve unit showed up. The reserve unit had the same UIC of the ship. The ships undermanned Corpsman also took care of the annual physicals of the reserve unit attached. I got my sea service ribbon on these FFG's.

For more info, I'd refer you to a Career Counselor or perhaps call a LCS reserve unit and get clarification on those questions. I've yet to be attached to one of those specific units, so I'm not knowledgeable on those questions. I wish I had a better response for you.
