Also, is there any way to avoid going to Fort Sill, or is the selection for BCT randomly selected based on the needs of the service?

The best way to excel in Basic, AIT, and the rest of your career.... is knowing when you just shut up and color .... not saying let immoral things happen without saying anything (always speak up if someone is doing the wrong thing) but if it’s an order and it’s not unethical or unlawful, just execute and don’t complain or question it, just do it.

I did Basic at Ft. Sill(circa. 1990). It was rough in the beginning but as SFC Jason Boyd said, keep your mouth shut & ears open. We had a saying back then "Do as you're told, do as you're M!@#$% F&*#en told, no more no less."

Where you go for BCT is off of your MOS. So like most combat MOS go to Fort Benning, support MOS go to Fort Jackson and those are the only 2 i know for sure. but just stay positive and don’t cheat yourself out of anything

Like duh?' You are training to become a member of the military. It becomes about you and you learning about team combat. Your goal is about the objective of your situation.

Ft Sill used to only have recruits at it that were going into one of the artillery fields. Most were OSUT units, One Station Unit Training. I did my BCT/AIT there back in 1976, but I was also going into field artilkery though. I imagine things have changed since back then. But ask your recruiter, he or she should be able to give you a heads up where you are going to do BCT. If you are going infantry though, chances are you will be at Ft Benning in Ga. Not a bad bade, did jump school there. Learned to hate Sand Hill. Bit best to you and whatever MOS you go into and wat base you do BCT at. Just remember to keep your mouth shut, your eyes open, and your head on a swivel and do what you are yold yo do. The Drills are there to year you down, mold you, and turn you into a soldier.

I am a civilian and perhaps should not answer this though I'm going to say if you have the ability to excel then share that ability with your teammates. Don't stick out of your platoon rather be a part of the monster which is your platoon.
