Before returning from 2 years in Okinawa, I was deployed to Hokkaido Japan to join a CAX with the Japanese Self Defense Forces. We were told it was the 1st time since the signing of the surrender, that we did any training with Japanese forces. It was also said that we were going to replace eine a unit citation, or commendation of sorts.
Any help?

NAVMC 2922 has a master list. It's a little hard to read, but it's by unit with Award Dates.

As LCDR (Join to see) said, you can write a letter to Quantico, and they will research it for you (I did last year to confirm one of mine). Takes about 6~ months because they do ALL of the USMC.

You could write a letter to:
Commandant of the Marine Corps
Military Awards Branch (MMMA)
2008 Elliot Road
Quantico, VA 22134

They should be able to look up your unit and verify what awards you would have earned in that time.

The guys over there are super nice and easy to work with, but are NOT fast. Took about 6 months to confirm my awards and I live outside Quantico. That said, definitely shoot them a letter. They are the source.
