How can you get to Ranger School? Quickest way is for you to Branch Infantry, and by gosh you will go straight to Ranger School following IOBC whether you like it or not. Best advice, enjoy College/University, master the skills to be successful in University and if you are a participant in ROTC, enjoy that. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the suck when you do become an Active Duty Officer, if that is was your goal is. Enjoy School Young Man, you will earn your Tab in due time.

They don't send cadets to Ranger School. They stopped doing that a long time ago. It's still an option, but it is not practiced for the reasons you see from the other responses. You have 3 months to complete the course. You cannot recycle. If you fail...you are out...and Cadet Command is out the money it took to send you. Cadet Command saw too many failures to justify the program's continuance.

Roger that Sir. Thank you for that insight. I will try to comoete for an Air Assault though. I hear that it's an easier school to get while in ROTC Sir.

I went to airborne. Go to both. You have the opportunity. Best to do it as a cadet.

It is not unheard of for cadets to get Ranger School slots, but rare. Mostly due to availability or funding. However, probably the biggest hurdle is if you get recycled and it takes longer for you to make it through. It is much easier to go to airborne school or air assault school as a cadet versus Ranger school. Best bet would be to try and get it after BOLC TDY enroute to your next assignment.

As a current SMI at a university and former RI. I hate to break it to you but there is no way.
When they did it previously the failure rate of cadets was extremely high and cadet command will no longer foot the bill.

Roger that MSG. Thank you for keeping it real. How easy if I'm towards the top of the class for me to be able to get say, an air assault slot?

Depends on how many cadets are in your program and how many slots for Airborne, Air Assault or Mountain Warfare your brigade gets.
Also you have to be contracted.
If you are contracted and in the top tier of your Cohort and smoke PT! Then it should be no sweat for your cadre to pick you to attend one of those schools.

Very unlikely, not even sure Cadet Command gets Ranger School slots at all at this point - but even when they did, many programs would not submit names anyway due to conflicts with the academic schedule or too high a risk of injury / recycle. But -- have you asked your ROTC instructor?

Best advice. Wait until you get to your unit and volunteer to go. Easier to do than trying to go from an organization with limited funds and slots available.

The reality of it is, most of the times when the Army has sent cadets in the past (the 80's), it was one shot one kill and you couldn't recycle. So it is worth it to try once you get out. It is a lot easier to go to Ranger school now, that they lifted the MOS restrictions. So you can go in any career field these days.

You can't. So... Do your best in College, so you can get high on the OML, so you can get your service component and branch of choice... and, then you can pick a branch that has an abundance of Ranger school slots.

It will not happen while you are in ROTC, your best chance is to do well while you are in the program, branch IN and then pursue Ranger school following your Basic Officers Leadership Course.

That's my dilemma Sir, I want to stay in the Quartermaster Branch and be a Logisitics Officer. I for sure feel I'd have a better chance at it if I chose to be an IN officer but that's not for me Sir. Been there done that haha

SSG (Join to see) If you are top of the class in QM BOLC, it isn't impossible to get a slot. People who perform at the top of their BOLC classes can earn these opportunities or open doors that will help during their first assignments. Luckily, I already attended Ranger School as Enlisted... so my main goal was a slot in ADMOC. That way I can try and take over a Rigger Detachment following QM BOLC. Are you an MS3 now... or about to start G2G this Fall?

You will have to wait, but since you've passed RASP (RIP) and served with regiment your experience will carry you through the course and any other future endeavor. Good luck with your officer goals brother!
