There should be an opportunity to ask for Ranger School (and other training) when you're about to be commissioned. There's almost always a chance to do some kind of RIP training during OBC depending on what branch you go and then do Ranger school between OBC and your first duty assignment.

I was an RI for almost 5 years, never saw it happen. With the recycle rate so high there is a good chance you'd get dropped to go back to school. They have a program to send lts before they are branch qualified but they do horribly. My advice for best success is get your degree, branch qualify, and then go.

It's unfortunate that USACC discontinued sending cadets to ranger school. If funding is the issue, why would the case be for an active duty green to gold cadet?

Congrats on getting this far! I'm going to ETS this year instead. Finish my last semester of college and then rejoin. I'm considering the Coast Guard.

It's been hard lately to get a slot in RGT as a Ranger Cook MSG. Even more so as I became a needed leader one because cooks can't pass RASP and two the Ranger Cooks who are NCOs don't stick around as long as I have. I was promised school while being here a few times but it never happened. All playing into the reason I'm ready to leave the RGT and go do better things MSG. Thanks for your input though.

SSG (Join to see) - No problem, sorry that things didn't happen as they should have while in Regt. Good luck with College and the next move in your career. Share your experience with the other cadets you have lots of it. That is something all programs need.

That school is likely too long for you to go while in ROTC, you'd have to wait until after OBC, or BOLC or whatever they are calling it now. Depending on which OBC you go to they might have slots to compete for after you graduate.
