I am currently enrolled in AIT at Fort Huachuca expected to graduate in August. I have completed the process of an Airborne Physical Part 1 & 2, and have been qualified. The only problem is that my Platoon Sergeant and Drill Sergeants are lacking the motive to submit my packet by misplacing it once and having no updates as my remaining time here decreases.

Any advice for possibly taking matters into my own hands? Do I have time, although my physical was received by my unit before my 30 day out?

I'm really surprised what it takes to volunteer for Airborne now a days. In basic 1972 before graduating at basic, there was a Sargent recruiting for the Airborne, if you said yes, then you went to jump school.
But then again, there were only 3 of us that volunteered and went to Jump School. My class started with 600+ students, at graduation there were only 286 who graduated.
I hope you can get in and Good Luck in getting Jump School.
All the Way, and then Some!

Just look up your branch manager on the HRC website and submit it to that person. It's pretty simple.

P.S. After graduating jump school the sent some of us to our PDS at Ft. Bragg for OJT-AIT. That was miserable. I’d much prefer a training unit. We caught it from all sides from the other soldiers in our unit and others around us.

Exactly! The normal end of day for everyone around us was about 17:00. We were still at it until about 21:00.
They’d make fun of us as they put on civies and took off.

How can I get an Airborne Packet submitted at AIT with minimum assistance being provided by my NCO leadership?

SGT Carl Blas and I had a similar experience. They actively recruited a bunch of us right out of basic in 1972. We had a bus load going to Ft Benning and my 17 year old carcass was put in charge (that’s where I got my first taste of how unimportant I was). I don’t know if everyone was going to ABN school or not. I did not take notice of the class size starting or finishing.

Also, if you’re really sure that your platoon sergeants Just aren’t doing it, all of the 1SG’s and CO’s in the training companies have open door policies. Your 1SG is a good resource if you’re unsure as to how to contact your retention NCO, since you’re still IET I assume.

Talk to the retention NCO and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Or in all actuality they should be the one who helps you.
