Ive been in for almost 2 years now, proud of everyday served. however I wanted to be deployed more than anything, for a variety of complex reasons. How can I go about getting deployed? Im a deployment volunteer on my SRB, ive told my leadership time and time again that I will do anything required to do it and they just brush me off. I dont want to get out if the Army wishing I deployed. for reference im in the 44th Medical Brigade, Fort Bragg. Im proficient in my job, physically fit, eager to learn and be as helpful as possible, any help? thanks in advanced!

Be careful what you ask for. Your time will come and it won’t discriminate. You state for many complex reasons, which is concerning. The idea of deployment is not complex, you train , your ready, you deploy. War is honorable, but not sexy. So I will not patronize you, your time will come. Stay fit, stay trained, stay ready.

Here's the thing. The current effort in Afghanistan is winding down. The majority of units still involved are in either security or training missions. I don't know what the deployment cycle is for the 18th and have no idea if your unit would be called upon to serve in the medical support role. As far as you being cherry picked for a deployment...I have to be honest and say that at your rank you just don't have the kind of experience needed yet. Even SFAB units are looking for at least a promotable specialist to even be considered for the assessment process.

SPC (Join to see) then that flies in the face of what I just told you. I suggest you request to use the CO's open door policy to find out why you can't when others have

I'm sorry you feel like your leadership is brushing you off, but as it was already mentioned, deployments aren't what they used to be. And I'm sure you understand how that has affected our military. Having a deployment patch or not isn't as big a deal as it used to be. A deployment is likely nowhere on your unit's radar, they've got other things to worry about.
It might be wise to focus your energy on getting promoted. Take on extra duties, perform well. There might still be time for you to get picked up by someone if you get some more experience. You're at Bragg after all.
Hope you work it out and you don't find yourself with regrets.

I've been doing all I can to get promoted, but our unit does fast tracking promotions alphabetically, regardless on if you are a good soldier or a shitbag, if your name is early on the alphabet you get fast tracked first, so even though I've been doing all I can to promote as soon as possible, that's out of the realm of possibility until my TIS/TIG comes, and I do take on as many extra duties as I can, during all of this Covid-19 BS I've been going to work diligently whilst the command team and leadership either stays at home or comes in late/ goes home early, I do all I can, but I just don't see myself progressing at this current unit. Thank you sir!

SPC (Join to see) Glad to hear you're staying engaged. Don't give up on it, there's got to be some things you haven't tried yet! Are you close with your NCO's? No one can be more effective in helping you get the things you want than your immediate NCO's. Relationships are key, I've found. You're just a private, you need someone with rank on your team.

Whoa; slow down there high speed. Deployments aren’t what you think they are. Its most likely that your unit isn’t ready for deployment, that or the army has no use for you overseas right now. Its good to show motivation, you wanna deploy, good for you. But now is probably not the time for you, you’re a PFC. Volunteers the army wants will usually have combat experience and a few more chevrons. Those are the ones who get sent first. Wait your turn, this ain’t the same army as the one during bin laden. You can’t just hop on a plane and go stack bodies just cause it’s a Friday.

“Every plan is a good one - until the first shot is fired.” -Carl von Clausewitz
I think this quote applies to combat, career, and any wishes in life. The Army will decide when you go to war. Be careful of wanting what you haven't experienced yet. “There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but, boys, it is all hell.” -General William T. Sherman

I wish I had that problem, but in your shoes I would probably feel the same.
