Hello I’m an active duty 74D , I have my degree in business , a Net +, Sec+ and A+ and Im almost done with my Cyber security Bachelors degree. Most of my experience has been building and designing websites and apps. Can someone please give me some incite on the direct commission program I’ve reached out and emailed the POC but have had a hard time connecting with someone to get more information besides what’s on the website. I know I’m at a disadvantage because of my lack of related experience I just would like to know how to make myself a competitive applicant without getting out the Army and getting a civilian job. I want to serve in the Army without a BIS. Can anyone help me out?

You can direct commission into it, but I've never heard of anyone DC into 17A with anything less than Master's in computer science with at least a background in programming. No offense, but your BS in CS is pretty much a dime a dozen these days. It would be very helpful for you if you were to try to become a 17 series warrant, or a 17C or 25D

You probably won't find anyone on here unless you're really really lucky. They haven't done a ton yet. For example, last month they commissioned 10. If it was me, I would reach out to this newly-commissioned Major on global and ask all your questions via email. He just went through the process and got enough credit to come in as an O-4, so I would guess he knows what it takes to make a competitive packet.

Direct commissions for Army cyber officers finally gaining steam, two-star says
“The authority to direct appoint officers was last used on this scale during World War II,” said an Army Talent Management Task Force official.

Not sure If you can direct commission in that specific field. Even that has lots of sense, I have not seen it yet as a Branch to direct commission. Many times, it’s irrelevant as you can change it or concentrate on it. Examples are, Medical Service Corps, 70 series has a 70D, which manages Systems and IT. They have several areas to concentrate, that cross paths with other non-tactical Branch. I have done several Branch details, meaning do something different than your concentration. That type of degree you’re completing combine with Military experience might be more convenient to apply for one of those alphabet agencies: FBI, ATF, DEA, DHS. It’s highly marketed for forensic as well as investigative, in addition than programming. Also commission in the Reserve, and handle two careers simultaneously. In a long term there you’ll earn two retirements. Lot’s of possibilities... It is what I choose to do. About to retire from the Army Reserve this December with 21+, then 8 more years to go with DHS/CBP.
