My son is about to turn 4. I'd like to get into land navigation recreationally with him.

Good advice, but at a 4 y/o isn't eligible for even Cub Scouts, nor even Tiger Scouts. The Boy Scout Handbook would certainly help him teach it to his son ... assuming they still have a secton on the compass and land nav.

I'm taking mine to Cub Scouts. They now go as young a kindergarten. He'll eventually "get there", but right now I'm working on him just knowing our phone numbers, and his address.

#1 rule for a kid of this age..........Don't lose your parent
#2 stay right where you are, don't get lost more

If he's the one folks are following out of the wilderness from a plane crash well, I guess that's that then.

You should speak to the local Scout Troop they will be able to share guidance and possibly resources.
