How do I calculate the days for the OSB? For a deployment under six months is it 180 days or 184?

So I arrived in Kuwait on July 25th. I'm trying to figure out what day would mark my six months. Reading the regulation it seems like it would be 180 days (4 months and 10 days + 1 month and 20 days.) But the literal six months would be a total of 184 days? Anyone have a definite answer?

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" might know. Since this is smart people stuff, my junior officer brain doesn't get it ;-)

It gave me a headache when I came to the conclusion that there are two possible ways to count the dates. And knowing the army it would be either one.

what does the Reg. say outright... and is there a reason to worry about the difference of 4 days...

The example that the regulation gives is the, 4 months and 10 days + 1 month and 20 days. My deployment orders state that I'm to be deployed no more then 179 days. So when I return Ill have a CSIB but not the strip and I really don't want to spend time explaining that till my next deployment. But with the dates I've been given to possibly return I might actually make the 180 day mark.

that was the same Crap they used on US in Haiti... You Can Thank Bill Clinton and his Democrats of 1993-94 for Hosing the military to keep the Troops from getting the Full TDY allowance... If you apply for the Combat badge and hash marks they should be be awarded under the exception...

SFC George Smith - Its one of those things I feel I should know that way when S1 puts the dates in I know what should be on my uniform. And with all the experiences I have had S1 likes to interpret the regs based on their SNCOs advise. Which isn't always wrong but I have ran into a few that go by what they have been told by other ncos and not by whats in the regs.

they should have orders for the awards and decorations when you get back or shortly there after... Have your company clerk check a couple of weeks after you get back if nothing has come thru...
