My advice might be dated. I was in the National Guard (M-day) looking for a full-time AGR position in 1986. When I became (full-time) AGR in 1987, the position I competitively bid on specified the rank and skills required for the slot. I qualified for the position because I met the requirements. The AGR position you hold would have specified the pay grades allowed for the slot. I suggest you review your slot pay-grade requirements. If the slot allows for Officer or Warrant, than I'd say go for it. If you are in an Enlisted slot, and you became a Warrant, for example, you would lose your slot. You would have to find another slot that allowed for your new rank. Above all, I suggest you check with your career advisor to determine all your actions. Good luck!
As far as I am aware you just need to go to either recruiting page and start the packet that is online. I am active duty and I just went to the Warrant Officer Recruitment website and download the packet.
I recommend reaching out to either/both programs (Warrant and Commissioned Officer) and talk with a recruiter, express your concerns, and go from there. Every decision will include some level of risk, but if you have facts, you can make solid plans.
