So 2 years ago I went from active duty Marine Corps to Army Reserve/Guard and every step of the way I feel like I've been hitting brick walls. In 2 years I haven't been reclassed (tried twice), haven't been enrolled in DLC 1, BLC, (even tho I went to NCO Academy as an NCO), I apparently don't get credit. I've even been told I cant wear my Marine Corps ribbons even if they are in Iperms until I prove that I have orders for every single ribbon (even campaigns) which the only ones I was given orders for are my personal awards and OVSM. I've turned in certs for 36 courses and schools I've attended and they still don't show up as education points. Do I have to go to G1 myself and sit down with a 42A and my record book until my ERB looks the way it should and I'm enrolled in everything I need to be?

In regards to BLC, AR 600-8-19, Section 7-24, you are to be able to receive credit for completing USMC NCO courses (they are listed as to what is credited)....as long as you have the documents to back it up. I'm still digging for the awards portion. Either way, it sounds like your S1 sucks and they need a reality check. If this is your unit S1 not doing their job, take it to your BN S1.

LTC (Join to see) - Sir, we both know that some S1 folks need to be literally walked into iPerms and shown the documents.

MSG (Join to see) - I have found that there are only 2 kinds of S1 folks. They are either really good or really bad, there is no in between. LOL

MSG (Join to see) - when I transferred from the guard to the reserves it took me nearly 18 months to get my points squared away. I finally had to call my former BN XO who just happened to be the deputy MILPO for the state at the time to get it fixed. And they somehow "misplaced" my medical records. They were missing for nearly a year and then one day, according to the S1, they just magically appeared on her desk while she was out to lunch.

How do I go about it without rocking the boat?

SPC Wyatt Evans -
1. See if you can make an appointment with your G1.
2. inform your CoC that is what you want to do.
3.ask an NCO to go with you.

Should be good to go. As a former IG, I will tell you, this is something you would rather fix at the lowest level possible. You think you are rocking the boat by going to your G1? Wait until you see the waves crashing on the boat if you dont attempt to do this 1st before you go to IG. This shouldnt be that big of a deal, and im not really sure why your CoC would be opposed to it. I wish you luck. Remember, try and try to do this at the lowest level possible before going to IG. But if all else fails, they DEFINITELY cannot stop you from going to the IG

SPC Wyatt Evans - See my response, but if people aren't doing their jobs and it's effecting your career, rock the damn boat. It's been my experience that somewhere up the chain there is someone that takes their job serious and can either motivate or remove non performers. Sometimes it's inexperience, but sometimes you get stuck with people that do as little as possible. I am completely unsympathetic it they get their ass in a bind for not doing their jobs.

Have you set down with the First Sergeant and the Company Co? If you haven't, request an open door with both of them. If they are giving you the same answers, the request an open door with the Bn Co and the SGM. And it perfectly find to schedule a meeting with the S1 to get your records cleared up, that's their FREAKING job (said the former S1.) I found that the Guard's HR system wasn't real good about talking to the other Branch's when I was still around. So take all your records and set down with them and get it on file.
What was your MOS in the Marines? A bunch of Marine MOS's don't require going back to school. NGB should have a memorandum on what Marine MOS are interchangable. MP used to be one, so if you are a 5811 going to 31B, it may just be paperwork.

One further thing. All your ribbons should transfer, but you need to get the regs out on order of merit since the Army equivalent will normally take precedent. Can't wear marine marksmanship badges on Army uniforms, but if you are Airborne qualified, you can wear Army Jump Wings. Tell whoever is giving you crap about it to show you the regulation. If it's on your record, wear the damn things.
Is this how they teach NCO's and Officers to take care of their people these days?

I've been wearing my Air Force ribbons for the last 20 years and no one has ever said anything about it. My DA photo, with said Air Force ribbons, has been in my promotion packet every board and it never kept me from getting promoted. DA pam 670-1 outlines order of precedence for all US medals. I had to go through the process of proving I was authorized to wear a couple of Air Force unit citations to get them into iPERMS but once there it hasn't been an issue. If it is in your iPERMS, wear it and tell them to pound sand. Don't know why this should even be an issue.
