I am a 13 bravo and was sold a dream by my recruiter. I am wanting to switch my mos before my first contract ends. I’ve heard about packets A little about packets but don’t know a lot. Is it possible to switch and if so what is my best plan of action?

See your BN Career Counselor ASAP. There are some MOSs that the Army is extremely understregth. Most of these MOSs require you to to submit a packet, as a voluntary reclassification. However, 12P (Prime Power Specialist) no longer requires a packet. Your Career Counselor can guide through the process, but you will have to do most of the initial work.

Just do a request 4187 to your ops center and let them know and also talk to. Recruiter

Wait until your window of reenlistment open, make sure you GT. score is 110 or better.
Look into the Bear program now and check the qualifications for the jobs in there and k hope you find the mos you like now.

I was sold the 13B dream too. I ended up Infantry both deployments, but I re-enlisted as a 13B after my first 5 year enlistment. Being a redleg isn't bad, especially if you go Airborne.

Its definitely possible. I enlisted as a 13F and am now a 42A after only about 9 months of my contract completed. I just needed to get an LOA (Letter of Acceptance) from the unit I was trying to go to and also on the LOA it will give you youre new duty position. When I got the LOA I sent it to my RNCO and requested a transfer. In my case I was moving to a unit closer to my HOR (Home of Record) and my new duty position I got accepted for coincided with my ADOS orders (Active National Guard position). Somore than likely you will need to give your RNCO a decent reason for wanting to transfer. Also, if you have a sign on bonus you will have to pay it back (Luckily I did not have one).

I got the same story. I'm in the KY National Guard, and I wanted to go armor, except their ISN'T an armored unit here, and only Lord knows why. But I figured it didn't matter, because I plan on going active, and then I'll see if I can reclass. I've been told that you have to wait at least a year after AIT.

Normally not no but HELL NO!. Unless you are qualified for some ultra short/critical MOS, you are stuck with your MOS tell your re-enlistment window opens (-12 months prior to ETS. Your fault- no one said you had to BUY the dream.

On the HRC website there is something called an In Out List which tells you which MOS’s are under or overstrength. I don’t really know much else about the process, but you can use that to decide which MOS is viable.

Best I can suggest is to talk to retention when they start sniffing around trying to get you to re up

More than likely you will have to finish your contract and then re-enlist for a new MOS. Learn all that you can while you have this MOS, you may find that the knowledge you gain now will help you in your new MOS. Good luck.

If you're in ait still fail that shit. If you're not. Wait until the middle of your contract go to retention and demand a reclass

Bad advice about failing training. If a soldier is still in AIT and fails their class, they will be re-classed according to the needs of the Army. That soldier could potentially get an MOS they REALLY hate. He cannot re-class until he finishes his first contract.
