I haven’t found much information about this online. Just like the question says, what steps would I need to take in order for me to transfer to another reserve unit as a chaplain candidate?

AR 140-10* has the information you're looking for (para 2-28).
For Chaplain and Chaplain assistant positions, individuals will work through the responsible Readiness Division* personnel manager CH who will work with the MSC/DRC unit ministry teams for assigning chaplains.

1LT (Join to see) Most of us Chaplain Candidates fall under the 81ST Readiness Division at Fort Jackson. If your unit is under the 81ST I would assume the request would go through your supervisor, then to CH (LTC) Farmer (who is our personnel manager), then to the 81ST's office. SSG Guyot works up there, just got a new OIC. Let me know if you need a POC and I can message you directly.
If your not under the 81ST, look for the email where you first got your orders and a bunch of attachments with information. Speak to the Religious Affairs NCOIC that sent you that email. They are likely in whatever office you need to speak to.

The easiest way is to make your desire known through the Chaplain technical chain, contact you next most senior enlisted chaplain assistant. Likely your next level Group, brigade.
