Ferguson grand jury
Whether you feel that the grand jury's decision to not prosecute the police officer was correct or not how do you think that that community and us as a nation can move forward and heal?

For those who think it was only FoxNews that got the story, but it was hidden.......why not a bigger outcry for someone brutally beaten? Was it because he is white or because he was an immigrant? I venture to guess because it does not sell news as much. It is sad and I hope the remaining suspects are brought in peacefully and the justice system can begin its process to see if they have enough evidence to indict then try and convict, the way the system is to work for everyone. We are so lucky we do not live in other parts of the world where the family can do whatever you did to their family members. In this case beat you to death with hammers.

I heal fine. But, people in this country let "REAL important items" just go by their side.
For instance: the VA Shameful and disgraceful regard for our veterans. Worse is the current response from the people and Congress. Throw 17 Billion at it to "hire more doctors? give them raises? Build better facilities?" Meanwhile veterans are still in the cold , not getting care, waiting for services and getting crappy benefits. It may seam like it is good in places , but in others it is not so good. If the % of good care was 75% for your business, you would have to close your doors. These are peoples lives and we as veterans normally don't like to complain because we feel like, " Hey, we are being taken care of eventually ". But, the problem is , eventually it gets worse and worse and then you have more serious problems because of a small thing they could have fixed or, sent you to an outside clinic. Come on, they have given them 17 B-B-Billion dollars. The VA cannot afford outside consults, the Congress cannot afford a decent pay raise for the veterans. Remember, most of them , this is a fixed income. They have given and earned this from the country they love. Why should people who do nothing come before people who have earned , fought and given sometimes everything for their country. Just so people can be as stupid as they want to be. Apparently when it comes to the basic job of taking care of our countries Veterans that is why you see so many tax free organizations stepping up, because they know the government is failing to do so. If this is the case, they should be applying more pressure on the government for you and I. Active , Reserve and Veterans for we give all for our country and it is it's responsibility to see to our care and our families. We should not have to face destitution as a Veteran, ever. Yet, our biggest concern today is the legal findings of a court and the early shopping of criminals nationwide, meanwhile the VA continues unabated, unwearied and unconcerned.

There really is not a lot for me to heal. I base everything on facts and logic. But, having a life where you have constant prejudices by the popo, I can see some animosity built over time dealing with these issues. I have been pulled over more than once for stupid stuff, guns drawn on both side of my vehicle,. Once , I looked at the officer parked, I was in dark shades and he was sure I was a vehicle in an earlier incident. It barely had same color shading much less a color description.

The only way healing will start depends entirely on the Feeguson Police Department. It is my perception that the FPD, does not respect the African American community in Ferguson. If anything they fear that community. I say they have the responsibility, because they are the ones with the power and authority. They need to learn the community they are entrusted to protect and to serve. This involves getting to know the people and letting the people know you. It means getting out of your patrol car and going into the barbershops and hair salons and talking to the people. These are people and not animals. They have feelings, dreams, aspirations and hope. Some have despair, anger, and hopelessness. The Ferguson PD. Is the key to this success. On the National scope. The same formula will work. Stop driving buy business in minority communities. Get to know the people. You may be surprised to learn you have more in common than you do differences.

Team we can discuss the healing of the situation, and it sounds good but we are a long way from that! I don't support looting or the violence, but just something to think about. The grand jury was 80% white is that a jury of peers? There is a reverse situation where a black cop shot a white student. I guarantee that the jury won't be 80% black. When you have situations like this people of color will always question the fairness of the legal system. Again I am not say the officer should be or not charged.

MAJ (Join to see) I understand, however the two people involved were both male are you suggesting that we go strictly with the same sex and race of the victim? If that is the case then in reality you are going after everyone who is suspected of a crime just because of their gender or race and they are guilty because of it. The jury of peers is supposed to be to protect the accused so in reality they should all be white males then right? Oh that would be bias too. No a jury of peers according to findlaw is: a jury of fellow citizens. It dates back to the Magna Carta to ensure that Nobles had a jury of fellow Nobles and not the king. Race has no legal standing in decision as put forth in Batson v. Kentucky, where they choose all white jurors and convicted an African American defendant. "The Court ruled in Batson's favor. It found that while a defendant has no right to a jury composed, in whole or in part, of persons of his or her race, the State cannot exclude jurors simply because they are of the same race as the defendant."

So to judge the grand jury by the color of their skin a person in fact are being biased and potential racist by implying that the white members could not weigh the decision without siding with their fellow white person. This is the type of thinking that will develop more hatred. I learned in Master Resilience Training for the confirmation bias. If we keep looking for things that support our views we will find them and twist items to bend them into support and ignore the other facts, that may be completing pull apart your theory, to keep adding your confidence that you are right. So in this case some are so convince that it was racially motivated they ignore that the evidence supports that the police officer was being attacked. They use this to justify "sticking it to the man" and loot and burn down businesses, ignoring the fact that the owner is also African American and that it makes them look like idiots and is hurting their cause. Until we can get over our confirmation biases we cannot see the true picture. That goes for all things we have confirmation bias for, not just this case.

Brian as a CJ major I am tracking Baston v. Kentucky, but it doesn't make it right and that case is used to justify having people of color tried by all white male juries but is more about jury selection. People of color will never feel that they are getting a fair shake when it comes to the legal system when your on trial and none of the jurors or very few look like you. This is not to justify the violence and rioting that occurred in Fergeson, but to get you to think of the situation in someone else's shoes. This is not "racial paranoia", but think of it like this. If you were on trial for a crime against a person of color(for this debate we will say rape of a black female) and the jury make-up was 50% black males 30% black females and 20% white males. Do you honestly think you would get a fair verdict? if you do you have more faith in the system than most and those numbers would never happen and you and I both know it. In my opinion a jury make up should equally represent that of the accused and the victim and the victim, so race or gender if found guilty or innocent would not be a factor. McDade shot by white officers no grand jury even convened, Trevon martin 6 white & 1 minority on the jury. I hope you can see the frustration specifically with black men and situations with police….By the way I am an MP
