Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?<br><br>

How would you feel if you were FORCED to vote for a particular candidate or incumbent ? As our Commander in Chief, is he subject to the UCMJ ? If so then why didn't he get punished for his orders associated with Afghanistan ? While I believe that some expressions of dislike and disgust are over the top, I also feel that it is only the OFFICE of the President that is worthy of respect in this instance. Certainly NOT the individual that occupies it at this time. LETS GO BRANDON.

Whereas we are there to defend free speech, I do not feel it is right for someone currently serving, and in uniform to make negative comments about the current President. I served under Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. I was not thrilled during the Clinton years. His policies of cut backs really hurt a lot of units. I never openly discussed my displeasure with him while I served. I did get out and felt free to speak my mind at that time. Respecting your Chain of Command doesn't stop at your CO. Show the respect due the office while you serve. Vote for the people you prefer when the time comes.

Veterans should refrain from criticizing a standing president as it gives support to political positions. Our job is to execute our national security objectives whether we agree or disagree with a duly elected commander in chief.

So a veteran permanently gives up their right to have an voice their opinion, in your mind? Sorry, that was nowhere in ANY oath I took. As a veteran, I have my right to vote, my right to speak my mind…in fact, I’d propose that any veteran has earned a heightened right to be heard. My “national security unity objective” is what I say it is, not what some demagogue or puppet is telling me it is. Consider my comment a vote down on yours.

Col David Clark, Unlike you sir, I never made a career out of the military so we have different attitudes. I was infor only 2 years after being drafted. I have been a cililian for over 50 years and feel that it is my right and duty to critize the president or anyone else. I have freedom of speech and damn well will use it.

I say veterans especially when not in uniform while maybe not in the best taste leave it be. There is fine line between regs and freedom of speech, civilian and former military members with their full constitution rights restored upon discharge. Current members hold peace, or find a why to express yourself constructively without breaking regs.
