Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?

Part of the good thing of being a veteran, is the president is no longer in my chain of command, so I can voice whatever, and this president and a few others in the last 20 years are a result of broken system

Egads - invited to respond to another ancient thread... But OK, I'll toss my two-cents in anyway.. and after 8 years, perhaps it's now an even more pertinent question.

Active duty requires some command deference, if for no other reason than UCMJ Article 89. I would propose however, that any veteran has earned a far greater first amendment right to exercise his opinion about anything (s)he wants, than just about anyone else. If we don't speak on behalf of those whom "discretion" is mandated (see article 89), who does?
Now, if you're concern is over how vitriolic some comments are, that's an entirely different "style" issue that pertains to how much credibility the individual reader gives the commenter.

I feel that if the truth hurts maybe you should look at it. But the way it is presented, counts. Presidents are no exception. They are as capable of being wrong as everyone else. For example Mr. Trump's health insurance for all full-time employees. So now every entry-level person has to work two part-time jobs not get health insurance and barely make ends meet. It looks good on paper but the reality is not so great.

I'm old fashioned and my real dad (killed by a DUI while on leave), taught me that you never bad mouth the President whether you like him (or her) ....it's the "White House" that you are disrespecting when you do that son....We all took an oath to protect all...and that include's the President....It's unprofessional to bad mouth them....That is my opinion.

No everyone is graniteed free speech in the constitution members of the military have to surrender some of the right. Respectful and comments with tact should be allowed but going out on social media and trying to start something or being verbally abusive is not allowed. Past presidents are still considered presidents and therefore subject to the same rules. It really shocked me how many people were Veterans active January 6 attack on the White House. Nobody has a right to attack our government especially those who served to protect it

It should never happen on social media apps because it undermined the person'd credibility with peers and other insiders and opens up vulnerabilities for outsiders that would do you and whomever harm when or if the occasion should arise. It's to your good to always try and maintain good manageable relationships with all people for the good of everyone concerned because this is a small world when it involves people. You don't need to be in their face because people are different but always seek to communicate well regardless of how the other acts out or reacts.

While I'm not a veteran, I would think anyone in the service, and those who publicly show their affiliation with a branch, should remain professional, the "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything" mantra. That said, I find it amazing that for four years, anyone bashing President Trump was "well within their rights to speak freely" but now we're ordered to "remain respectful" because it's now required?

If you are still serving, gotta behave. Like or not, it comes down to things like dissension,, moral and more that gets effected. Once out, say whatever you like and I can’t wait until that’s me.

Regardless of who in office democratic or republican give them the upmost respect long as you serving in uniform active, reserve or Guard. What the POTUS is doing has nothing to with you influencing your troops and leading them. So I say put sum Gas in your ass get back to work accomplishing the mission. If it’s but hurting you that bad get out of the military and run for office and make a change….
