Absolutely! Free speech is the pinnacle of a free and open society and it's what we fight for. If a President comes to talk to the men and women in uniform, he better be there to listen to what they have to say as well.

I feel it's ok to have your opinion. As an active service member, you voice your opinion when voting. You post things on social media or speak out loud about you dislike for the President, you are bad mouthing your boss. Do that at a private company, and you will have problems. The difference being, your contract comes with an oath. Regardless of whether or not you feel he is keeping his oath, 2vwrongs do not make it right, and there will be consequences. As a veteran, you need to remember you now have a strong voice, but your example is still something people pay attention too. I voted both ways in the last 2 elections. I will again voice my opinion on election day.

It is our God given right to express ourselves and that right is protected by the first Amendment. No warrior should blindly follow. That said, as members of the military in this country, we agree to follow all lawful orders. It is never good forum to speak badly about your leaders at any level.

First you need to be more clear on the facts surrounding your dissatisfaction. There is a very clear distinction between those in service and those that have completed thier obligation and different rules apply to each group. Was the down talk about the person or a policy? Was the person being talked about in office at the time of the talking about and was the servicemember/veteran a commissioned officer. Article 88 of the UCMJ covers this but only under certain circumstances. Outside of that if you express dissatisfaction of an administration between you and another that's perfectly fine, and legal. If you are spearheading rallies for the like then there may be an issue.

When I was on active duty the president was my Commander in Chief, no matter who it was. Now that I am Veteran of 22 years of service, I will utilize the document I supported and deafened to exercise my rights, to free speech being one of them. I will not accept representatives in Congress who hate this country dictate my rights to express my opposition to their political agendas and party lines. I will continue to use my voting rights tell me how to make changes can be made to our political system. Especially the attack on our democracy.

We need to show proper respect, even when the commander in chief is less than good, even when we have to watch corrupt politicians do their dirty deeds, even when the media acts corrupt. We need to hold our tongue, because we're just part of the "machine." There has always been corrupt politicians & corrupt media. I love my fellow veterans even if they see things differently based on which media influences them, because they are still humans who want what is right. I cannot be absolutely certain that I see things perfectly clearly, so I have to have the grace for others that I wish for myself. :)

They are hopefully good Americans with an innate desire for provocative thought and therefor principles that demand careful consideration and conclusion. Some become puppets others have their independence stirred to a froth over political decision that jeapordizes them and their nation. Some of us took away the concept of , no compromise in the face of tyranny and a desire to eliminate the dangers of poor policy on behalf of America. There is no excuse for violation of the code of conduct unless the order itself violates that code.

Its a very different world we live in. A lot of it starts at the top. Ex president Trumps derogatory remarks out in the open. We never seen that years ago. We might bitch and scream about our commands but only to each other at the command. Now woth all this social media its way to easy for people to say pretty much anything they want good or bad about anyone and no repercussions. I served and to myself I bitched about some of my superiors but never ever brought it out in the open. To me that was disrespectful to the uniform and position they hels. Wheter is was from the President on down to my leading seamen. They had a title to be respected. Not necessarily the person

Freedom of speech is fundamental to our constitution! However any person donning a military uniform needs to direct their verbal comments respectfully! People have opinions! Opinions have no place in our service to our country! I was a Vietnam era service member and recall not liking the then incumbent president. What our group did was write to that president with our sentiments! We handled it in an objective manner not just loose talk! A soldier is a thinking feeling individual! But concerning duty politics a soldier must maintain decorum and serve honorably despite their political views. E Pluribus unum.
