That is a hot question without a definitive answer. When actively serving, you are bound by law to do as ordered. If your words cause or are involved in an active insurrection, as happened on January sixth, anything from jail to execution should be the sentence. If you are an officer released from service, you still must follow the military code. As a civilian, you can say what you wish as long as you prove what you say is true. It is the loudmouths who spew out what they feel and believe without proof that can face problems. Much of the misinformation that feeds the lies come from people paid to incite anger. Putin, Xi, and Kim Jonn-Un profit from the destruction of America. Many platforms people use on the internet make money by encouraging people to argue on their forums. America must change as times change. We need to change as we changed from the day we developed an American government. We need to converse with each other in a helpful manner, not destructive.

Veterans and soldiers have the same rights everyone else does to express their opinions about our elected leaders. Expressing a negative opinion or disagreeing with an elected official is not disrespectful, or disloyal, it is free speech.

Veterans like myself are entitled to their opinion. I will say that the current president has been trying to clean up the mess that the previous president created during his time in office. As for Soldiers doing this, they forget that the president is the Commander in Chief. Yes the president makes mistakes, however the president is in the Chain of Command. Such acts of criticism could lead to punishment under the UCMJ.

CPO Mark Gallup - Dude. The sun has fried your brain. After what he nearly did to the Country, there is no way in hell you or anyone else should be making that claim.

CPO Mark Gallup - Then why has trump been impeached twice, and has been indicted 4 times already? And I'm the one with the fried brain?

CPO Mark Gallup - I must say, you have really bought into the narratives that spew from trump and his acolytes. Listen, there are reasons why trump is in the current position he's in. The main reason being he did all of those things to himself. His first impeachment was due to him violating the Impoundment Control Act. Now, you will reply that the Senate didn't convict him, which is true, however McConnell and Cruz later said that trump indeed broke the law. His second impeachment was all because he couldn't accept the fact that he lost the 2020 election. Now, I don't know where you were when the election went down, but I was on the USNS Cesar Chavez, and saw the election results on AFN, and on the internet. Trump was trailing the WHOLE time in the Electoral vote, and the last state he won before the "pause" was Alaska. All of his indictments stem from the actions of him, and him alone, so I don't know where you get this "DemonRATS are 100% CORRUPT" narrative from. One other thing, the reason why the Biden's are not behind bars is simply because there is nothing for them to be incarcerated over. You can thank the GOP Senate for that one, meaning before the 2020 election, they investigated Hunter Biden and found no evidence of wrong-doing. However, if you still want to accuse people like myself for having a fried brain, fine. Just remember this. The FORMER president you admire so much, nearly destroyed the Country that you and I served, and if he's reelected, he will indeed destroy the U.S.A as we know it. And people like yourself will cry like babies saying :"Why did he do this? We voted for him. We trusted him?" And people like myself will say :"We told you what he was going to do. He showed the world who he was ever since he announced his intentions to run, now you pay the price for your lack of vision."

Yes freedom of speech plays a role. I can praise or criticize the president of the United States of America without any consequences as long as I don't do it in the name of the United States of the Army, or in uniform, or in threat. I am a voting citizen of the United States of America and I am a Soldier. I have to make sure the two do not cross, that is all.

This has been a constant discussion since Rallypoint started.
CW5 Roy Rucker posed the question regarding President Obama in 2015. More came up under President Trump so here we are today with President Biden.
We all know the rules now.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. (Current oath of enlistment).
When conflicted between Constitution and orders of the President, know that any order goes through the Joint Chiefs and then the Service Chiefs before being handed down. That's why there is differing guidance between the services in some cases.

I think it about it like this. I need to respect his/her office and his/her position as the Commander and Chief, that doesn’t mean I have to like them. But I need to be respectful of their position. Like the saying “Salute the Rank, not the person”
I personally think it’s unprofessional to talk negatively to any boss of that matter VIA social media. I don’t believe it should be in our ranks at all.

As our commander and chief, he deserves respect even if YOU not agree with his views or politics. It is a difficult enough job without all the BS from the public.

Not really, they just shouldnt be talking about him in uniform, nobody deserves respect, that is earned.

It's fine... I only see actions as threats... Speech and babbling is relatively meaningless since most mouthy people only have agency to make threats they can't deliver.... If they could take action they would need to threaten anything... Essentially a person threatening to punch you doesn't realize that he doesn't need to alert you to that action.. He can just do it.
