Recently I've been hearing countless remarks, and seeing posts from soldiers and veterans alike. Down talking our commander in chief. How do you feel about this? Should this be allowed within our ranks? Does freedom of speech really play a part?

We all have OPINIONS, WE as people will ALWAYS have DIFFERENT OPINIONS, IDEAS and BELIEFS! WTP have to LEARN to just RESPECT OTHERS. I didn't VOTE for Trump and didn't BELIEVE in ALOT he SAID/DID, but he was the POTUS. At the end of the day I had friends and Veteran brothers and sisters who did and we are STILL there for 1 another NO MATTER WHAT!! REMEMBER GOD IS ABOVE ALL!!

The POTUS is an active soldier's Commander in Chief. Criticize while you follow orders you "swore" to uphold to the best of your ability. Your voice matters as long as you continue to fulfill your military obligation HONORABLY.

Generally I agree with supporting the president. However one time I do not want is if he shows himself or herself to be morally unfit. I do not expect the President to be a saint, but there are limits. A reasonable level of personal morality should be present. I can only think of one individual in my 79 years in whom such a lack of decently was present.

Anyone with just a little intelligence could see the former president was giving the Country to putin and the rich ones. I'm a Democrat but I don't see any critical mistake setting America up to be taken over by another country. I once had a College Teacher call me a Hawk when it came to America against other Countries. GOD is in charge and believe it or not, somebody is pulling the strings so things don't get completely out of control! I recall a Marine Major disrespecting Mr. Obama and I was shocked! For a Field Grade Officer to do such in any Branch of Our Military would began the domino effect if damage control was not activated! GOD BLESS!!!!

I will respect the Office of President of the United States of America, but I don't always have to respect the person holding the office. I keep my thoughts about the person separate from the office and try not to criticize the office.
I may criticize the person as much as I wish as it is a right guaranteed in the Constitution that I swore an oath to defend and I have no problems with anyone else criticizing the person who holds ANY office in ANY branch of government.

I respect the Office to which one is serving, does not mean that I agree with their actions, thoughts or anything else for that matter. Blindly following a leader or anyone will eventually lead you into a "deep hole" that there is no recovering from; unless of course you have common sense and great leaders.

Should never happen. You vote for whom you like and back the winner and give them the required respect. I think all parties should support who is in office for the first three years and six months then make your attempts to win the votes. If we did this then I feel we would have a United front and better country.

Okay, I seldom weigh in on these discussions as for the most part they are dumb and pointless. This discussion here is also in that category as every service member here ought to be familiar with the UCMJ and what it says. Also, let's all remember that a Veteran is not answerable to the UCMJ as he or she is a Civilian again unless they are a Reservist. Now, to remind everyone, the UCMJ, which covers ACTIVE DUTY PERSONELL, has this; Sub Chapter 10, 888.Article 88 Contempt Towards Officials. Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct. Please note that it says Commissioned Officers. It does not say a thing about Enlisted Personnel or Veterans. If my memory serves me correctly from my time aboard ship, the command where an enlisted serves has their rules setup based on the UCMJ and can relate to Enlisteds for the purpose of good conduct, professionalism, and respect for authority, all of which combine towards the ability of the unit to maintain combat readiness in order to complete its missions, and every US Military unit is run according to these principals across the board. I've been out since 1988 and can mostly remember all of this without having to Google it, so why can't anybody else?

Being in uniform requires one to respect our Commander and Chief while serving. What is unfortunate though sometimes we have to bite our lips when we don’t completely agree with their policies .
But, when a Commander in Chief upsets our democratic way of life and runs the White House like he’s a “mob boss” then in uniform or not, one has the right to free speech.

No President is God. As a veteran, I am now a civilian entitled to all First Amendment protections related to my opinions and speech. But in uniform, I kept my mouth SHUT, and did what was required of me. No, I did not agree with “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” and I don’t agree with taxpayer dollars being used or allowing transgendered persons to serve in the military. I don’t agree with the alphabet soup identity issue. I don’t agree that government should have any action in defining marriage or sanctioning it at all (a religious construct/institution) aside from the issue of property rights, civil union contracts, and all related partnership benefits (or hazards).

I watched a witchhunt in my company to ferret out persons who might be lesbian or bisexual. It was handled badly. It was abusive. It caused people to make false claims to deflect attention from themselves. It was not the Navy’s finest hour. It was cruel and offensive. It also did nothing worthwhile for the benefit of the mission or purposes of the military.

I don’t care about a person’s intimate choices with other consenting adults. I do care about the government sticking it’s nose in things that it has no business regulating.
