I am attempting to build a Shadow Box for my grandfather who served in the Air Force during Vietnam and in the Air National Guard during the Cold War.

He was a Security Policeman and a Medical Administrative Specialist, what occupational badges would he rate with those MOS/AFSC?

We thought it might be this one but were unsure if the Air Force might lump it in with regular admin.

SPC (Join to see) - This would be Information Management Badge. Looking up the description, to me it sounds more like office clerks, S1, etc..

MSG (Join to see) - I saw it pop up as Administration Badge, but that would make sense that it's for S1 types.

This is the one we were most sure of, but we also saw the Force Protection Badge.

SPC (Join to see) - This could work for the Security Forces.

Depends on the years he served in various AFSC. In Vietnam era, most AFSC didn’t have badges. Security always had large badge, see MSG (Join to see) post. Try consulting Wikipedia or Air Force history office.

How do you tell what badges an Airman should have had based on their MOS/AFSC?

As mentioned, the DD-214 is the source for correct information on badges and ribbons.

Unfortunately, and I don't know if this is just because it's older documentation but the occupation badges are not listed on his DD-214. Other medals and ribbons are, but not the badges. I don't know if it's automatic because of Air Force AFSC's or not.

I would go off of your Grandfathers DD214 for starters. The USAF occupational badges started being phased in during the 1950's so I would think they would be listed in the paperwork. If there is anything missing after that I would do some research on a case by case basis.

Send a request to the national archives, they'll probably throw in some of the actual ribbons too.

Unfortunately I've been dealing with the National Archives for 2 years trying to get other family members records. They are slow to respond citing COVID as a reason for their lack of employees and updates on progress. I'm loathe to attempt another try with a different family member, but if needs be that's what I'll do.
