How do you think a new round of base closures will shape the Army's future capabilities and/or general quality of life?
According to the Army Times "Early Bird", Army officials will begin a public
push for a new round of base closures that could take place as early as 2017.
More to do with the economic status of the DOD and the current RIF continuations, it is only going to get worse before it gets better, the smaller and less financially viable stations will be done, this is to include the NG/Res. locations as well.
Good luck and stay safe.
I think another round of base closures would help and hurt.
Sounds crazy but I think some posts need to be shut down and relocated to
bigger bases. During this round we should evaluate each base and ensure we keep
the right amount of wealth across the US. There is no sense in having 3 bases
within 10 miles of each other when one can be consolidated into the other.
During this round the committee should identify enduring bases. Once those are
identified we could say they will endure for a certain time period where they
are hands off for any closure talks. The problem is our elected officials and
these committees see the military as a huge waste of money and will do whatever
they believe is necessary to reduce our expenses.
