Please don’t take this the wrong way, have you talked with your NCO to have him/her to explain the promotion process to you? Have you been to an E5 promotion board? Have you researched the regulation that covers and explains Enlisted Promotions (600-8-19)?

You are on the verge of becoming a leader. Review the very same regulations that (I hope you studied) studied for the board and find your answer. I am sure you have a study guide in your HQ, and a smart phone. Life is good you have the world at your finger tips. It is a technology that serves you far better than the manual research of the past. Don’t let others find it for you, be the leader that knows! Look up Be, Know, and do! It sounds corny but it is effective. Thank you for your service.

Yeah I wish we would have had smart phones and laptops to study with back in the early 80's!

SGT(P) (Join to see) You need to talk with your NCO Support Channel. They should be aware if you made points and have the needed schooling for promotion.

You need to make points for november to pick up in november. Points will post then the by name list will be posted. To find that answer for yourself look up AR 600-8-19. I dont know the exact chapter but its in that reg. Hope this helps

There is a thirty (30) days wait period before your new ‘score’ is effective! Points have to be added prior to September 1st in order to be considered for promotion effective October 1st!
Please utilize your chain of command and read the regulations...SGT is an NCO rank and with it comes more leadership, please lead...

Take a few boxes of donuts to your admin people and leaders and ask that question. Ever do car repair for any of them?

Whatever points you earn within that month's cutoff scores don't apply until next month's cutoff scores come out, if I remember correctly. They fluctuate depending on the strength of that rank in your job.

In a nutshell: The points you have on your SRB/PPW on the 8th of the month is the amount of points that HRC goes off of while creating the cutoff list. Example, if you have 699 points on the 8th, then get an award (or any other promotion points) and it reflects on your records on the 9th (or after), putting you at 709 points. If the cutoff score that come out later that month is 700 you will have not made the list for promotion and are forced to wait until next month with your fingers crossed that the cutoff score will be 700 again.
Also, the cutoff score isn't just a random number, it will only drop down to the specific number of how many SGT's or SSG's your MOS is in need of. Take a look at the Trend Report to see where you stand amongst your peers.

Thank You SGT ALex Flutsch!
Your ‘leadership’ skills are reflected in your Outstanding answer and your current rank! Hope to ‘see’ You as a SSG!

Not going to beat a dead horse on the matter in hand because the previous SNCO's have already gave you guidance on how to approach this matter. Good luck and BE ALL YOU CAN BE!

Well to tell you the truth, the system is changing so much. Back in the day we used to have Promotion Boards for e5/e6 where you actually had to earn your first line leaders go to attend. Lol don’t worry they will just make you go to the board. No need to explain anything about what standards you have to meet. Good luck!

As far as I'm concerned, every NCO on this thread is in this man's support channel.
