Do you think more or less of a commander if they get the maximum score possible on their APFT (or whatever test your respective service takes)? During my enlisted days I don't think I ever had a commander who was a PT stud. If I had a commander who couldn't pass a PT test I might honestly think less of them, but I don't know if they really need to blow it out of the water. Thoughts?

I worked with nuclear weapons, why get sweaty when you can't outrun the blast?

I could easily do 25-30 dead hang pull-ups during my entire Career, max points was 20 and kipping was allowed.

I could do between 95-100 sit-ups in 2 minutes during my entire career. max points was 80.

I couldn't get the faster than 19:47 on the 3 mile run if you set me on fire, let me run down hill with tigers gnawing on my ass. My worst time ever was 21:02. max points was 18:00.

But my specialty was force marching. I once carried my Alice Pack at 117lbs, a 60mm base plate from a mortar section hump drop, plus his pack at 89lbs for the last 5 miles of the 25 mile evaluated combat readiness hump.

I never served in an FMF unit where every NCO, SNCO, and Officer couldn't finish the PFT with a 1st Class score 270+ out of 300.

Not only should they pass it, but they should do so with relative ease. Lead from the front

Infantry platoon leaders should max their pt scores and if they cannot they should train to do so. Period.

Personally, having a commander who nearly failed and a commander who just about maxes out every time. I don’t look at the almost failure any less just for his/her (these were both male) PT test but I do look at the stud a little higher than usual. My opinion of my commanders is how much they show they care for their soldiers. Just so happens the almost PT failure was a horrible commander and the stud is one of my favorite commanders

As long as they pass I could care less what they score. My outlook on this is that when I was in I was not a PT guru, but I did what I had to do. I didn't think that CDR who scored a 300 was any better than a CDR who scored a 200. As long as they passed. I also believe that those CDR's that belittle their soldiers for not being like them a PT Stud, are wrong. Not everyone can be a PT Stud. So get over yourself and help out your soldiers, not ridicule them.
