SSG (P) Palmer, I am currently serving in the position at US Embassy La Paz, Bolivia.  The POC email is [login to see]

When I went thru the application process the common factors among my classmates were:
1) previous overseas assignments/deployments (for example I have been to Kuwait/ Iraq, Angola, Pakistan - some of my classmates were also deployed to Japan, Taiwan, Mali, Israel)
2) foreign language (for example I speak Spanish at a 2+/2+ - some of my classmates spoke Russian, Hindi, Portuguese, French)

Although both of of those factors are waiverable, your packet will be more competitive if you have deployments and speak a foreign language.  You do bring up a good point about being out of the MOS.  You need to secure a release from your branch and they may be reluctant to let you out of the MOS.

This seems to be a non-official site, but has good information on qualifications and packet requirements.

Not hard if you meet all the requirements and a position is available.

Have you applied?

Here's a great, current resource:

I haven't applied yet. I was just selected for SFC on this last board and I am really considering all of my options, but I don't want to be out of my MOS for too long as I am an Instructor right now.  Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

SFC(P) (Join to see) If you're looking for something different you might look at NATO. There are many different positions around with the different NATO HQs around Europe. Also Military Liaison Teams around Eastern Europe, you'd probably have to contact USAREUR HQ, G3 Ops. These assignments can also get you some of the experience which helps move a career along. With each of these, you have a greater chance of Joint and international experience.
