As a Reconnaissance Marine, and Army Medic, now back to my infantry roots, I have been activated for many humanitarian efforts....Philippines, Honduras, Bangladesh, Somalia.

How many of your missions included humanitarian tasks?

A side note; I think Seabee's have the most humanitarian MOS'....my daughter is a Seabee, and it just awesome to hear what they are building, and they do just awesome stuff for both Active Duty and civilians and for the world.

We did provide humanitarian support to the Kosovo conflict in Albania (Operation Shining Hope) and then for hurricane recovery on Eglin AFB after a series of storms hit the Gulf coast of Florida. So I have the Humanitarian Medal but only got the award for the hurricane, strangely enough. Go figure! LOL

My MOS was 11 Bravo and in Vietnam in 1970 I can't say in hindsight that there was much Humanitarian about shooting and blowing up people

While assigned to the 92nd Engr Bn (Cbt Hvy), we conducted several humanitarian missions. Most notable, humanitarian support for the citizens of Somalia and hurricane Hugo recovery in South Carolina. We were awarded the Humanitarian Medal hurricane Hugo, but not Somalia.
