Glad I am on the old system as I wasn't given the opportunity to contribute back in 96 nor am I offered a 'catch up' option.
Besides, getting paid 50-75% for the rest of my life starting from age 42-51 sounds nice.

It can be better, but you have to pay attention to building a retirement. If you do nothing, it's worse.

I think it really is a great thing for our future troops. So many have separated with nothing(financially). That simply wont be the case anymore. That being said, definitely thankful for the grandfathering part for current AD folks.

How is everyone thinking on the recent overhaul to Military Retirement?

It is a major decision. The payout could be much bigger if investment accounts do well but could be lacking if the return on individual investment accounts tanks and will leave the sm less than compensated in a way that secures their future.

Nothing lasts forever. 20 year retirement, medical benefits it is nice. Reality is the civil service when through an overhaul of their retirement system years ago. In the end, the employer (our government) hold the cards. I am glad to be retired.
