My mother found out she has an acoustic neuroma and will need surgery to have it removed. She can barely hear or see and having memory issues. Her and my dad have been separated and he’s a jailbird on drugs. My brother is an addict and my sister has no job or car. My mother’s dad is legally blind and cannot drive or care for her. She has no family at all to help her but me.

You have a valid case. You can find guidance on the compassionate reassignment page of HRC. Direct family members are allowed to be considered for CR cases.

LTC Jason Mackay - I was just going to say the same thing sir. I think that would be the best case scenario making her his dependent then everything can run a lot more smoothly and easier for him to take care of her.

It’s part due diligence on to provide proper support for the request and part individual commanders personalities and decisions.

The more you support the request with facts not emotions, list out each living family member and providing details as to why they are not able to provide the support for your mother.

Medical opinions from your mothers doctors stating unequivocally she cannot care for her self and needs a caretaker.

A family care plan from you in the event you are deployed, have a 24 hour duty, go to NTC for 30 days.

An 18 month timeline showing how you plan on providing for your mother's care when you’re compassionate reassignment stabilization is likely to be up and you are given orders to PCS

Id start with asking each one Can you move in or take her in and support her?
They say yes, job done, if no, then explain what your doing with your request, that you need specific reasons why they can not and ask the family member to say why they can not. No wrong answers... Can be "I don't like her" " Current situation job and family I can neither financially, emotionally provide for her care, nor do I have the physical time to do so" all the way to "Family member XXX , could not locate personally or through any other family member" or "Family member YYY is currently incarcerated and unavailable"
If the family member refuses to make a statement, list them and provide what you know that precludes them from helping out"

CPL (Join to see) - Also, this need not be done on your own, or in a vacuum.. You have subject matter experts on post, one of those is your chaplin, and a memo from that chaplin is likely to be required in any case, so start with them.

CPL (Join to see) - Your request, in my opinion should start with a cover letter.
With a succinct summary of why she needs your care, how you plan on caring for her in broad strokes and an acknowledgment that you fully understand you have a commitment to your unit, the service and your fellow servicemembers.
