I am currently in training and have the opportunity to request my duty station (I realize picking my top duty station doesn't mean I'll get it). I am wanting to get Ft. Richardson Alaska, is it likey I can get it or is it one of the harder stations to get?

First-as an officer it’s a tough cut and mostly luck for an assignment to Fort R.

How can you make it possible...

Max your APFT
Score High on your Class OML
Earn a slot and graduate from Airborne School (no ABN-no Richardson)
Earn and graduate Ranger School-not a written rule but a cultural one-they want tabbed LTs
Request and graduate IMLC (whatever Mortar Leaders Course is called now)
Talk with the Infantry LNO at Benning and see what is in the realm of the possible.
Put it #1 on your sheet

After that, it’s still a bit of luck, timing and a whole lot of praying Brother.

Keep asking and working on it, never give up, accept what you get and grow where your planted. You’re 2-6 choices should also be as scrutinized so you’re set up for success.

Lead the Way...

Great advice. I would also add that it will help you know the lay of the land if you contact your branch assignments officer and see what they say the current needs/vacancies are. Showing personal interest in your assignments/career is never a bad thing (unless you make a nuisance of yourself).

Make sure you are Airborne qualified and that also will help your chances.
