I was lucky, I found a new career as a Director of Human Resources for a non-profit in July of 2012 and my retirement was 1 August 2012.  I worked with this great organization for 18 months and then decided to go back to college full time.  I just could not pass up our awesome education benefits.  I am using the old GI Bill, Illinois Veterans Grant, and Pell Grants.  What about you?  How long did it take you to find a new career when you transitioned out?

Veterans Administration is always hiring veterans. Go to their web site. Look for jobs that your qualified in. VA. also has Vocational Rehab. for disabled vets. It is Chapter 31.

Unless you are a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or shrink... and there are a LOT of retirees here so you think they'd need more non-medical people too.

6 months prior to retirement. I was fortunate that the company was willing to wait on my departure from the Marine Corps.

This is a great feeling isn't it. To be able to walk right into a new career. My last duty station was Hawaii. I started putting out resumes before I retired, but nobody responded until I actually moved back home.

Sadly, I am still on my way to my new career, in school. I will officially be 10 years post-EAOS, which will change soon to medically retired. With PTSD and epilepsy (service-connected) I've had a rather long, circuitous route. I'm also having to take the scenic route through school, but finally getting the afore mentioned issues under control has made things much easier. I was bouncing around from job to job over the past 10 years. It's been difficult, but I have hope that I am on the right path and will get there in due time.

Trooper Angela- the only way you can lose your battle for a new job, is if you quit trying. You have already proven you are a winner and so, you understand how winners are made. Be patient and you will land your dream job soon! Roger that?
