I separated from the Marine Corps and Im about to enlist in the Army Reserve as a 25B, I was wondering how long it would take me to pick up and does my time in rank would be taken into consideration for promotion? Any sort insight would be helpful.

You will need at least 35 months time in service and 7 months time in grade as E4 (USMC time will count for these), AND you need to complete SSD 1 or DLC 1 to be considered for promotion to SGT, and you will need to complete BLC in order to pin on SGT.

SPC Onel Cruz what he said, but that's the very minimum with waiver. Realistically, probably a year or two. You're heading into a low density MOS which means more competition for promotion, which means higher promotion points. That's also with being recommended for the board as soon as you're eleligible.

SFC (Join to see) How do you get these points? Is it all based on time or performance?

SPC Onel Cruz - Structured Self Development (SSD) will be replaced by Distributed Leader Course (DLC) by the time you are in the Army Reserve. DLC 1 is required to be considered for E5 and enrolled in Basic Leader Course. DLC 2 is required to be considered for E6 and enrolled in Advance Leader Course, DLC 3 is required to be considered for E7 and enrolled in Senior Leader Course.

Pretty much what the SGM said. However, if your ua or s1 nco is any good you may be able to get credit for blc if you completed Cpl’s course and have your cert.

Credit for BLC is possible with the USMC resident Sergeant Course, NCO course, the Pendleton Squad Leader Couse, Quantico Staff NCO course, the complete list of USMC schools creditable for BLC can be found in AR 600-8-19 Ch 7-24. Online classes won't count.

TIS should carry over, rank may or may not. It is possible you may have to take a hit depending on how long a break in service you have.
