you do it when you are told to do it period, changes happen and when you get into a leadership role you still have to do it, until you become the cic, life in the army, don't ask why just do

It is actually supposed too be done once a Quarter, Every three months for SM and the Instructors every six months with the updates and any new systems that may need taught the next Quarter.

How often do Accident Avoidance and SHARP courses occur?

There was a new SHARP course that came out FY17 in November. There is a directive for everyone to take this new one before the end of December, if I recall correctly. There will be recurring SHARP training every time there is new material, or if the number of incidences dictate that additional Army-wide training is needed; but I can guarantee this will be at least every FY. Accident Avoidance is done every year. Because commands report their numbers for each Fiscal Year, and June was last year, it is to be expected that there will be a unit requirement sooner then you might expect. I have taken these courses at least 15 times each, my First Sergeant has taken them at least that many times, as has my Commander. Just suck it up and take it again.

Annual, minimally, however in the Navy we have several "safety stand downs" on top of the official "SAPR" course. I'd say we get training at least every 4-6 months.

SHARP is Annual/Ongoing and Accident Avoidance is Annual. But that is the minimum. Your unit can have a different SOP on how often they want them done.

I'm not sure how often maybe every 6 months. What I do is go into ALMS when I have some free time and just do a few courses and print them out and save copies and check to make sure they're all still up to date. I usually only do safety and SHARP courses so I'm covered. I've gotten out of a few mandatory sit in class and do it all together ones by doing that.

Sadly the SHARP course is one of those talking courses where you can't move on until the slide is over.
