How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

you are right , officers give direct orders, but wearing a cover indoors while not under arms is an act covered under Marine Corps law, so it was a direct lawful order.

Handled perfectly. LOL. I'd like to have seen what happen outside. Needs to go back through basic training. I bet that gets his mind right then maybe he can call himself a Marine. US active Army was with NATO Forces Europe 87-90. Trained with Marines at Redstone Arsenal. I have nothing but respect for Marines. Most every man in my family as far back as the 1600's were either French Marines, or US Marines. Two lost their lives in WW 2. One on the USS Houston also known as the Galloping Ghost of the Java Coast. Went down with the HMAS Perth in the Java Straits fighting the Japanese.

I was in THE U.S.ARMY 1974-76 ,This was a time when we were pulling out of Vietnam, if you broke the rules, YOU WERE THE "EXAMPLE" of what happens when you break the rules! CSM was definitely correct in taking this outside, mother was wrong because now this Marine will have to live this down!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - made the mistake of washing Tops coffee cup, got my a$$ kicked, really! Motor pull duty, Sgt 1st class went to lunch came back drunk and punched me in the face,I cleaned his clock, but he got busted to E1, WOW, memories of a different Military!! Fun times were few and very earned, as long as you showed respect you got RESPECT! Definitely had too many wanna be bosses though, Had a couple of platoon leaders caught in a gay thing and NEVER seen them again!

Cpl Austin Eskew That is a honest answer - and believe it or not all serivce members can and will do stupid stuff - it's in their nature when they are young. I know if a lot of RP Members looked back on their military career half of them would find one dumb thing they did (whether they got caught or not) or whether they wanted to admit it or not. I can tell you as a private I did do a couple stupid things at the age of 17. Guess what I learned from them real quick in boot camp! Thanks for a simple explanation to the problem! Right on Austin!

First of all you don't wear your cover in a building. Second of all the junior officer was in his rights to ask the jar head to remove it. The disrespect of the jar head is what perpetuated this event. Junior officer probably shouldn't have gotten into a screaming match with the young jar head. The Sargent major put an end to it as he should have. The young jar head should be running till the cows come home. As far as the mother. He's not a baby. He's a marine.

SPC Frank Orcena Jr Great question. If were me back in the day when I was private - I would have said, "yes sir!" "I wasn't thinking!" If my mother said a word, I would have said, "Mother, this is a Marine base and he was correct, please don't say anything and let's continue to check out immediately!" End of incident, no yelling, no SgtMaj, no RP discussison or post and no RP Members saying it was fabricated, not true, impossible, calling my wife a liar, etc. LOL! Good question Frank!
