Am I asking too much? I get that most other social media platforms don't offer such a feature, but the political threads are taking over like a plague and many times make up at least 2 of the 5 "Trending Discussions."

Or will this continue to be left to the individual members? Maybe there needs to be some sort of subdomain for politics.

Hopefully we'll survive the politics until November when the election will be decided. Then we can return to normalcy, slamming whomever has won.

Sounds about right - similar to what SFC Everett Oliver said.

SGT (Join to see) I agree that there should be a way to ignore certain topics. While I do not "feed the trolls" on topics that I do not care for, I sometimes miss the ones that I do care about because they are buried under the ones I don't. The ability to customize one's news feed would be nice. I wonder, from a coding stand point, how hard it would be to implement.

What is forcing you to read the topics? If you don't like what is being discussed, move on to a thread that interests you.

Read this again, SFC: "many times make up at least 2 of the 5 "Trending Discussions."

That has nothing to do with me clicking a link to read the thread. However, it has everything to do with such topics cluttering my timeline and homepage where I could be gaining exposure to new topics I've yet to explore on RP.

I guess that is a fair point. I use my tablet to browse and it's too easy to quickly thumb through the site to see the topics that are current.

How soon until RP offers me the ability to ignore certain topics or groups?

I feel the same way and have tried to block a post by clicking on those 'three dots' at the right side of the original post. This sometimes gives me the option to block the post and sometimes it stops appearing, other times it just reappears or I get three other options to select from: 'report as spam', 'flag this user' and 'follow/unfollow discussion. Mike Pape (RP Staff) have been notified but so far have not been successful in resolving the problem at their end. I have been blocking any and all political discussions and do not otherwise respond to any of them until Jan 21, 2017.

Thats what you get during an election year....Don't think you'll see a topic ignore too soon though...

That's actually a great point. I didn't think about how the last few months have been compared to the rest of my time here. It almost makes my proposal seem excessive.

I don't think so, either, sir.

It will calm down a touch in November, then flare back up as people complain about the results, then slow down again around Feb or Mar....

SFC Everett Oliver - At least now I can keep this comment in the back of my mind for the next year. . . .

Wisdom, you have spoken, sir.

If I don't want to read something I just scroll past it. I don't need someone else to decide for me.

I think having a separate tab for politics might be good. It seems there are always a few recurring threads on here that pop up frequently.
1. Would you take up arms against the government?
2. Is the current POTUS the worst ever?

Those two topics in some form seem to always pop up.

I see #2 in many different forms daily. Sometimes, its funny. Other times, it is just annoying.

SGT (Join to see) - Your "Home" feed is actually exactly that - a customized timeline specifically for you and your interests, as well as those of your personal contacts. "Trending" is not personalized, and it shows the discussions that are 'trending' across all of RallyPoint. If you want personalization, use your home feed, and when you want the general overview from all of RP, use "Trending". Hope that helps!

You can also "favorite" discussions by "Following" them. And you can "favorite" entire topics by following those groups.

I might be mistaken, but the more topics you follow the more diverse your 'wall' will be... but as others said it is an election. And it depends, some topics just get more postings. How many separate postings are there about Kyles record, the death of Prince, the death of Ali, the Blue Angels, what Trump said... oops that politics sorry...

I follow a lot of topics. However, many of those topics don't get nearly as much traffic as soft topics that can be bundled with politics.
