Totally agree with the comments, (I think SGM Dawson killed)... Just as you counsel your Soldiers you should be receiving it as well the good, bad, and even the ugly, but as stated.... Have your ducks in a row, have in mind the reasons why you disagree, what you think, you earned and why.. Use tact but be candid, show that your part of the solution not part of the problem by being prepared. BUT DO NOT TURN IT INTO AN ARGUEMENT. I had no problem explaining the how and the why of my conclusions but when an NCO was unprepared for the discussion it only made me more resolute in my decision. Good Luck.

There's nothing wrong with questioning one's NCOER. There should be time to do this when you are brought in for your counseling. This is the time to do it and this is what the counseling is for. I've done it before and had it done to me before. Be professional and nothing can go wrong. Just remember, both rater, S. rater and reviewer have input. If you have a serious difference, have your ducks in a row. It might be a bombshell when you have your counseling session, but be professional, maybe request a later meeting to further discuss it. And sometimes, have proof of your position if possible.

As I'm sure you know from having troops to take care of, you approach each of them a little different since we are not all the same. Your superiors are not any different. Me for example love to share my experiences and mentor the Army's future leaders. If you were to ask me it would be in a manor of seeking mentorship to assist you when you are writing the NCOERS you are responsible for or in a manor of seeking guidance to improve yourself. I also appreciate a direct approach, just ask, but always have in mind what you feel it should be and why. You should know your leaders as you do your Soldiers to know what will motivate them to give you a straight answer. Be tactful in any way you do it. Good luck!
