I know this type of question is asked a lot, but I need some help. I’m currently in army rotc and I am passing the run and sit-ups but I can’t seem to get my push up score higher. Everyone says to just do more push ups. I need advice on how to increase my push up score and overall the others as well. Thank you

You need to build muscular endurance and work on pectoral hypertrophy, Just doing a bunch of push ups won't do this for you. If you have gym access get on the bench and work on benching your body weight for 10reps as many sets as possible this will help build the muscular endurance you need with your body weight. On a separate day work on progressive overload with the bench, This means just progressively increase stress with more weight and more reps until you hit your one rep max. This should help increase strength and endurance in your chest inevitably increaseing your push up reps. Best of luck!

I max my push-ups every PT test, and this is how I do it. do 3 sets of push-ups, first set, do half your max, take a minute break, then do half your max again, take a minute break, third set go to failure. take a minute break, do one set of wide pushups to failure, take a minute break, then do close hand pushups, to failure. Do this 3 times a week, and remember with the old PT test, you can change your hand position as long as you do not lift your hands from the ground. The new PT test has less flexibility with hand position. Good Luck.

oh, and every week, add 3 push ups to your sets of regulars, and one to the wide and close hand pushups. when going to failure, go to your knees to knock a few extra out.

There are a lot of good ideas here to improve your pushups. So of course a little weight training will make the rate you improve a little faster. I use to do pyramids, start at with 5 and got to 20 then come back down to 5. I also add sit ups between reps to allow for a little rest. Another thing that works is do push up during some down time. So during a night of tv watching do 20 push ups during commercials. It sound dumb but you will improve. The biggest thing is to do push ups and to push yourself or you will not improve. Good luck.
