How would rate your medical care in the military? What improvements would you like to see?

After 8 years of military medicine, I'm curious about the opinions and ideas that SM's have.

I believe that it depends both on the physician you see as well as your location. I loved the care I received in all of my CONUS locations mostly because they seemed to have time to explain things and had the necessary resources with better communication. OCONUS, has been a nightmare. Going to landstuhl, and my location is not only time consuming but downright expensive. Especially if you have a dependent with medical issues who have make multiple trips. As far as OCONUS physicians go, I feel that they seemed rushed because of there limited resources and time to see soldiers. For example: I made an appointment for two issues and was asked which one was more sever. I now tell my soldiers to make multiple appointments if there are more then one issue.

I am very satisfied with the medical care I receive in the military. I am currently at a location which has a clinic which provides the basic things. If I require anything out of the ordinary like an MRI, surgery, etc, we are sent down to Landstuhl. I for one definitely cannot complain about the level of care that I have received there.

I have seen enormous progress in research, development, production, and dissemination of truly miraculous training, supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment. Far more lives are saved today, servicemembers leave the battlefield in far better shape. Followup care is exceptional.
Psychological support services have become far more comprehensive and readily available.
