How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Continue to hand out work assignments. Release the rest and have him stand fast. If you deal with him right then he gets the reaction he wants from you and the rest of the platoon.
Tell him the he is very funny but you will inform the rest of the platoon that due to his actions they will due extra duty each day untill his attitude has changed. When he ask why just smile and tell him to get to work. Let the platoon fix his attitude!!!

I'd smoke him right there then verbally abuse him and if he doesn't get the point send him to see the platoon sergeant which in my days would have a visit to the First Sergeant and NOBODY wanted that!

The sergeant has a different problem by as been in setting the tone for this to happen in the first place. That private his unit for a few months and shoots his mouth off like that? The relationship between the sergeant and the private is destroyed, but the biggest challenge is the unit under the sergeant's charge.
