Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Excuse everyone except him and his team leader and explain to him how miserable his life will get if he ever does that again. Not picking on his team leader but since he will be in charge of his work detail, they will both be doing extra duty of cleaning a compartment or whipping up oil some where. Thats what I would do.

Throat punch and say "I guess your going to sick call for that sore throat first. Make sure you finish this task before you secure for the day after ward."

As a platoon commander I look at the Platoon sergeant give him a nod then turn my back while he wails on the kid.
When I turn back all is good
When I turn back all is good

PT him til he drops. He learns a lesson as even the dumbest box of rocks understands exhaustion and you will have a better fit member of your team while exercising your authority over him. win win

Remind the E2 that not following orders can potentially kill people. I would then charge with disobeying a direct order, but only after getting 100 push ups from the E2.
