How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Back in the day, such bozos would be taken out behind the bushes and given an "attitude adjustment." Usually, an ass-kicking would settle things once and for all, as well as serving as an object lesson for the rest of the unit. But that is probably too old school for the modern military.

Last time I had a boot private smart off to me, he met my friend Iron Mike as he was doing them for about a mile with his riffle held high over his head.

As commander I would have his entire chain of command in my office to witness the article 15 proceedings.

as an E2 myself i have to agree i and other E2s have no right to challenge or complain about the authority of any nco especially if it is a moral command but even if the nco is being unfair it still is absolutely no merit for any disrespect of any kind. bitch about it on your own time hooah.

depends on what and how he smart mouth to the E-5 when I was in the service the E-5 would not finder punch a E-1 in the thourt because the E-5 would have been dead by the death touch and fingers and arm broken

Squash him like a bug and PT till he pukes. Questioning with discretion is one thing, in formation. Very wrong answer.
