That is a tough problem to solve. I don't believe in lowering the standards of what it takes to be in service. PT tests, handling your individual weapon, etc. have to stay, lowering them will get people killed. But perhaps some of the other enlistment qualifications could be modified, not lowering it to Cat IV of the Armed Forces Qualification Test as McNamara did in Vietnam. But perhaps the medical and drug issues could be broadened. The age for enlistment has been increased and overweight has always been addressed. I rarely see commercials or advertisements for joining any of the armed forces, that could be punched up as others have suggested (or is it a sign of the regard the armed forces are held in?). But what about upping the pay, it's common knowledge that our lower ranks struggle especially those with families. We seem to be able to print money for immigrants and other questionable projects. Why not money for those who defend our country?

Illegal migraines should be forced into military service to earn their citizenship and learn English, as well as a skill, and earn a paycheck, so they won’t be a burden to taxpayers. Watch fewer migrants trying to enter illegally! They shouldn’t get a free pass, but should earn a DD214 and VA benefits.

Causes: #1 Wokeness, #2 We haven't won a war since WWII, #3 New generation only cares about themselves.
Cures: #1 Clean out all the deadwood in our mostly useless general officer corps. #2 Make service tough and honorable again. #3 Never lower standards- If we can't get enough people, then we manage with a leaner force. If we can't manage with that, then this country is no longer deserving of our blood.

When publicly traded companies fail to produce results, a change in management usually follows that restores profitability. Just saying

Might be time to start offering citizenship to the border crossers in exchange for service.

You might have some problems with that although a good Idea in part, The border crossers of today are not the same of in the past. Most and not all are here to get what they can and not to contribute. They must understand what the country is about. Right now everything is free for the taking. Give it a couple of years and then look at the ones that are willing to maintain the American way of life and not change it.

How would I solve the problem? I would bring back the drill instructors from the 50's and 60's. Stop asking recruits to do something and stop being afraid that someone will be offended. Where is R. Lee Ermey?

I remember watching Full Metal Jacket as a kid and thinking he was scary and then I went though basic and realized he was actually kind of calm. haha.

Allow older veterans/ those just out to come back in to the respect MOS's or learn newer skills and fill up those slots in the units. we have a lot of skills to the I for one would do it.

I'd remove the requirement that a recruit possess a high school diploma or GED prior to enlistment. Can a high school drop out really not be able to serve in the military? How many GIs in World War II didn't have a diploma? Quite a few. If a recruit makes a certain minimum score on the ASVAB, let them join. Put those folks through some sort of GED course after basic training. I had buddy get his GED in the Army like that in the 1980s. Bring that program back. It will help recruiting some amount.
