I am being assigned to Fort Huachuca later this year. What is family life like there? What could I expect from my time in Fort Huachuca?

I am currently at Fort Huachuca and I am with the 304th MI BN. It is not that bad work load all depends on which unit you are with.

I left Ft Huachuca in December 2013 & I loved the area. The houses on post are nice. My daughter went Solomon Elementary & did very well.
I was in IEWTD/EPG.

I just left in 2014. I can't give you anything about PLT SGT duties but the on post housing is nice! Nicest one I've had 11 years in. I lived both on and off post. Schools are good and so is the day care. I'm not sure how old you're kids are. FT Huachuca and the community hosts many events so your family will have lots to do . Bisbee and Tombstone is another great place to bring the kids to. If not there's always something to do in Tucson and Phoenix.

SSG Dotterer I looked at pics, posts and You Tube videos on housing there and I was surprised to see how nice they looked. I was there for ALC last year and I do remember they looked nice BUT seeing them from the outside is different than viewing the inside of a home :)

I know what you mean. The houses are great! I lived in merila loop. I was told the homes in the area were a little older but fairly new. Granite countertops, high ceilings, lots of space in each area of the house. Bathrooms were huge. Huge pantry. Adequate backyard space. But seeing it in person is a lot better than someone telling you about it or seeing it from the outside :-) With your schedule as a platoon sergeant, living on post would have lots of benefits. I'm a platoon sergeant now, in fort sam, and I live off post. Sometimes after working long hours the drive home sucks. Good luck in your house hunting.

I was there 1999-2001; no idea what it's like nowadays. I do remember it's about an hour to Tucson and 3 hours from Phoenix; that's about it O.o

I tried to write a few more details (than the initial question) but it wouldn't post. I have been there for ALC, so Huachuca isn't too foreign min my mind, BUT I this time around I will be with my family and working a lot. It's a different world than ALC.

My wife worked in a daycare program called Skies that has dance class, gymnastics, piano, things like that for elementary age children. My wife was doing "mommy meet-ups Ft Huachuca" with our toddler for a while but you may have scheduling conflicts since they usually do it during normal duty hours. I worked as an instructor and ran PT for the PLT's that had PSG's on night shift or doing FTX training or confidence courses. They have awesome confidence courses and leadership reaction courses that the Soldiers like to break up the PRT monotony. Life there for families can be awesome, just have to go out and find stuff. They have a new Community center that has a pool table, small gym room, toddler room, a kitchen with a large dining area that you can reserve for events, and a big outdoor play-ground area in the back with a b-ball court, volleyball sand pit, and frisbee golf course.

I haven't been there since 2009. I didn't stay in on base housing, but it seemed okay.
The town of Sierra Vista is small, and didn't have too much in it. Tucson was about and hour drive, and Phoenix is about 3. Fort Huachuca is a TRADOC post, all the MI AIT Soldiers are there, and their professional development schools.
