We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

you are whining! It sounds like that unit had soft leaders and the soldiers got use to it. I wonder what the physical fitness level of that unit is, probably not good.

You are a soldier. We are coming off the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge which was an all hands operation including cooks, bakers, mechanics, and hospital medics. The enemy will not give you eight hours sleep. If you cannot handle that, leave after your current enlistment. there are a great many suburban police departments who will not only pay you a lot better but allow you to doze off on duty on a regular basis. Note: Stay away from Big City Police Departments.

Are you a Spec. 4 Mafia member? If not consult one. The members are virtuoso of the workaround; some even legal! That being said, work through the standard channels. Command will very likely accommodate a alternate schedule. Don't try to "skate", despite my introductory statement. Instead, try to be flexible and innovative with a solution.

What if you're in combat...are you going to tell the enemy to come back when you are better rested.
4 to 5 hours sleep is ample rest for you to PT. Once you're done, you can shower and take a nap.
It sucks that your schedule is not accommodating, but PT is not every day. We who have served have been through this....it is the nature of the beast.

I do believe that Army is only required to give you 4 hours of sleep a night.

A 6 hour shift. Like going in at 0730, getting off at 1330. Would you go to bed then or wait till 2200? Time management is key. Adjusting your short schedule to match the 1sg requirements is the solution.

Max your APFT and take advantage of any command policy allowing high scores to PT on their own.
