We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

See if you can form up and lead a lunchtime PT group. I’d bet that some NCOs and officers might participate since lunch is a popular time to exercise. Also, these are hospital people so it can’t be that hard core

I can understand why your 1SG said ladeedadee er’ body because it seemed like there was complacency w pt from old command. I’d see if your section is willing to all show up by 1545 and say we’re all here and report what you did for pt and offer him a copy of your PT plan. Showing up at the 0530 isn’t healthy for you or your section due to work schedule requirements. Try to show you have a competent and reliable section and he’ll trust you. Remember you can use the open door policy as well and talk w your CDR if it doesn’t work.

I remember pulling CQ when we left work 1630 and had to be in the CQ office at 1730 until 0730 when you had to report to your duty station. That was back in the early 60s and there was no complaining.

I can not even imagine that thought crossing my mind. I do not believe the military is for you. Go to you tube and look up Special Forces Training.

You do your job. You do it with passion, love, and sense of duty above and beyond. Don't fall into a pattern of mediocracy and whining, it won't get you anywhere but angry and frustrated.

Are you fucking kidding me??? Shut the fuck up and get your ass to FUCKING FORMATION!! You're not going to be able to stop a war and say oh hey I can't do my job because I've only gotten 4-5 hrs of sleep. Military regs state you're supposed to get no less than 4-5 hrs of sleep....guess what cupcake it doesn't say they have to be CONTINUOUSLY! STOP BEING A BITCH AND SUCK IT UP. If you don't have duty til 1600 that's plenty of time to sleep the rest of the day. Get your little 3 hr power nap go do pt then come home and go to sleep

I may be misspeaking here because I've been out since 1991 but when I was in, unless you were currently on guard duty or CQ you were expected to be a PT every morning. My first duty assignment was in West Germany with the 2/11 ACR. My First Sergeant was First Sergeant Morgan who was a real hard ass. Unless you were in the Hospital, he expected you to be at PT at 0530. If you weren't, he would have your ass.

I arrived at Daily Barracks around midnight my first day in country. My unit was at the border at the time so there was only a few people at the barracks. It was after 2am by the time I got assigned my room. 0500 the next morning, First Sergeant Morgan kicked open my door and told me to get my ass up and outside for PT. It was about 20 degrees outside and over 3' of snow on the ground. Talk about a wake up call.

If I remember right, Army regulations say that you are required to get 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period unless you're on guard duty, CQ or something like that. Those 4 hours do not have to be continuous. Of course this does not apply in combat. But like I said earlier, that was 30 years ago. Things might be different now.
